Beware of the current Remington "load up on savings" rebate scam. I bought a $900 700P and sent in all the paperwork for the $50 rebate and they denied it. They told me that that one isn't part of the program even though the website and rebate form make no mention of it being excluded from the program. I'll never buy another new Remington now just on principal. What a bunch of scamming fuckers. They claim the lower priced BDL's, sevens. etc are eligible, just not the police models, WTF?

It might not be Remington doing the denying.  A bunch of the companies contract that out to  a company I won't name (but it's located in Young America, MN.)  That company seems to have a tactic of denying the vast majority of rebate requests at least once for BS reasons.

The police models are listed in there... search for your model # in the list

It might be some weird model number that isn't on the list.

Or it could be the rebate company.  Most of that stuff goes through a third party, like Possum Sandwich said

I always expect to get screwed out of my rebates.

ALL rebates are scams. Sometimes you get lucky and they pay off.
I will avoid a product if it has a rebate.

I had GREAT luck with Colt - although it wasn't a rebate, just free stuff.  I bought a 1991A1 years ago, and it came with an offer for a free windbreaker if you spent below a certain amount, and a real nice leather range bag if you bought more.

I had only spent enough to get the jacket, so I sent in my form and waited to get my cool jacket.  A few weeks later a nice leather range bag arrived.    So I called them up and told them about the mistake, but when I told them I'd actually rather have the jacket (and would send the bag back to them), they told me to keep the bag and they sent me the jacket.

Score!

As a follow-up, the name of the rebate place is Rebate411, they told me too bad so sad, they said they had already addressed this multiple times due to people calling about the same thing, so I called Remington customer service and talked to the lady who handles the rebate stuff. She told me the 700 Police model is not eligible for the rebate. I told her that on the rebate form it says that the only 700's not eligible are the ADL and the SPS, and that no mention is made of the 700P not being eligible, she said sorry but it's not. They have committed fraud in my mind. It was a $50 rebate, it's not like I can't pay my bills now, it's the principle of the thing. It is troubling that Remington would stoop so low as to become one of the many souless corporate whores that scam their customers like this. I haven't even shot the damn thing yet and already I have negative feelings about buying it.

Small claims court ought to get it squared away if you feel that strongly about it. I am sure as soon as the got the court papers a check would be issued shortly there after, it not worth their time.

Not for nothing but to spend almost a thousand dollars and then complain about $50 of it not coming back...? That's kind of silly.

For a $300 weapon, sure, that's a fair chunk of it's value. For a $1000 weapon? A little disproportionate, don't you think? %5 of the value of it? Almost as much as the fee any credit card company charges?

I've been through this kind of thing maybe a dozen times. Get the name and address address of the President of Remingron and write a one-page letter summarizing the places where it was silent about excluding your model. Then how after the fact, they and the rebate company are making up a new rule.

You kept copies of your receipt and anything esle you sent in, right?  make more copies and send a set to the Pres.

Go on to explain how your internet friends BIL, and hunting buddies (anyone else you  told?) are wondering why anyone should buy Rem, ANYTHING, if his company is going to pull that kind of stunt.

Don't cuss or make threats of violence.  cc:  to your state's Attoney General Consumer Fraud unit.  Keep copies of your letter, too.

Your cost -  1/2 hour of time at most the price of a few copies, and some postage,

You can try doing this by phone, but often a letter has a higher batting average.  Much easier to repreat the FOAD treatment by phone.   About all the phone would be good for is getting the name & address you need for your letter.

I bet you will get a positive response soon.

But if you in any way have been misleading in the facts, you;re gonna ruin it for future customers.  I trust that's not the case.

They're counting on guys who think like you do.  As long as they don't break it off, you'll grit your teeth and try to enjoy it.
