Tylenol is still around and one of the best brands known in the world. That is because the CEO of the products manufacturing division of Johnson and Johnson was a hero. He was able to convince the public of the superiority of their product and how safe it was and this was just a isolated incident. He should’ve written a book on how he smoothed out the situation. Outlook on stuff like that certainly changed a lot over the years. An older friend told me about saving his lunch money when he was in middle school in the 50's to go to the local hardware store and buy dynamite to throw in the river trying to try and get fish. Said he never got any but years later he realized he was supposed to go downstream to find them.

They also claimed cyanide was not used during manufacture or not in the manufacturing facility, but that was incorrect. Then several years after the Chicago incident after safety measures were added to the bottles, there were a few more people that died on the east coast from cyanide poising from Tylenol. That’s the short version from the best of my memory. The documentary explains it better. |

Stella Nickell of WA state copied him in 1986. She killed her husband (intended victim) and one innocent bystander in her scheme. I told some random guy "Nice bike" when he was fueling up at a local station. He proceeded to tell me it had belonged to his BIL, who died by taking tampered Excedrin.
