| I'm trying to do a clean install of Windows XP Pro to my brother's computer. When I put the disk in it pops up the menu and I click on install Windows XP. Then I get an error message saying there is no valid partition. I click ok and it takes me back to the main menu. What am I doing wrong? |
| Sounds like you need to create a partition on the disk and format it before proceeding with the installation. Those steps should be available on the install CD. If there's an existing partition, possibly the partition information has become corrupted - delete the existing partition and create a new one. |
Driver downloads at the web site of the manufacturer of the computer or manufacturer of the modem, network card or sound card. |
He didn't leave that with me. I downloaded them to a disk to put onto his computer since the ethernet card didn't work. Damn there's a lot of updates to XP Pro with Service Pack 2. It's working on 55 of them right now. Did 30 before that. |
* with the computer off, see if you can locate the actual sound card/chip and write down the info from it..google that for a possibility. * also if you get the name of the hardware..try driverguide.com * Is the PC built from scratch? or a brand name? Dell? What model? * screw the sound card and find some tech-nerd nearby who has a box with 7 sound cards in it * Spend 11tyhundred dollards on an X-Fi sound card..they're supposed to be cool * you can try going with one of Windows' built-in generic Sound Blaster drivers (install from a specific location>Don't Search, I will choose a specific driver to install.... * or if you're really in a goofy mood, download some common generic sound drivers and try those from the "have disk" option |
| It's a Dell Dimension 4600. It's a sound blaster live 24bit card. It didn't tell me that anywhere in the system I had to pull the card. None of the drivers for that card from Dell worked. Went right to the manufacturer and downloaded the drivers. Up and running now. |
