I searched for ACR, and didn't turn up anything, so if this is a dupe, someone needs to name their topics better. The folding stock and quick change barrel were both two of the only features it had going for it.

I'm not particularly wowed by it.  Doesn't mean I wouldn't use it if I had to...

I'm curious to know if the changes will carry over to bushmaster.

With the weight reduction was there a price reduction?

I'll wait for the Tavor

i dont care for it, but i dont hate it.

Seems like it is definitely an improved product...but losing the quick change barrel might have gone too far.

They lost me at MAGNESIUM LOWER.

Fuck that shit.

Somehow I doubt it.

Pretty much what I thought, I am underwhelmed by what was provided.

I would of been all over it had it been priced accordingly, lastly I do not hate the design, rather the price, features and capabilities did not warrant me to purchase it.

Sig got the picture, I wonder when bushmaster will if ever?

The best part is since it's the Remington version NOT A SINGLE CIVILIAN WILL BE ABLE TO BUY ONE

I'm not trying to complain but I really don't give a crap about the Remington ACR since I won't be able to buy one.....ever.

I like the changes (even the removal of the quick change barrel) so hopefully they are adopted by Bushmaster but I doubt they will be.

Why?  It's not the first firearm to use magnesium.  Magnesium dust is highly flammable, large chunks of it are stable.

As for the QD barrel, it's still there, they just took the wrench off, so now you'll need a seperate tool to do the change, but it shouldn't be significantly slower.

It's dumb they took out the folding stock, but I still want it.

Cost-benefit.

It's now at least $200 more expensive, and it shaved off maybe an ounce.

It may be internet hearsay, but a while back I read that Remington is basically retarded and treats Bushmaster's ACR line like a red headed step child. You would think two companies owned by the same parent company and selling the same product would have a little more collaboration, but apparently Remington is protective over their modifications/enhancements to the ACR in regard to Bushmaster being able to implement them.

The whole thing is stupid and the fiasco behind the ACR launch from Bushmaster was absolutely mind boggling.

That said, I had to have an ACR and I like it now that it runs correctly with M193 (needed the newer stiffer op rod spring). It is a good gun and the platform has a lot of promise if they will get off their asses and support it.

No P22 is Zamak.

ZAMAK is Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium.

why is it so hard to make a tool-less QD barrel?  Steyr did it on the AUG back in the 70's

As is often said by Drake of Magpul, the ACR is pretty much the Masada with only a few minor differences. Those being primarily no flip up front sight, less desirable barrel config, mid length gas system (as opposed to carbine), redesigned gas block/regulator and op rod/piston, and one or two other minor details like the collapsing stock locking tabs being different.

Exactly.  Not exactly the same thing as higher grade magnesium.  I seriously doubt Remington is using ZAMAK to make the ACR lowers.

I broke the entire lower of an ACR by pulling on the charging handle once. I took photos of it and posted it up in the Bushmaster forum.

Meh, if the sold us that one I would probably get one.

As for the magnesium, BMW made motors out of it so I would think a lower would be OK.

I have not posted that in maybe a year.  I have seen other people post it though.

But no. I don't have anything to add. I wanted an ACR bad. Then it was crap. Then I realized how happy I am with my Sig 556.

I'd still take a free ACR though if given one.

Big difference...

BMW used Alusil aluminum cylinder sleeves, and cast them into a lightweight magnesium block...

They didn't give a shit about making the ACR lighter, they just wanted to make it CHEAPER.

Going to magnesium alloy and dropping the folding stock and QD barrel wasn't about cutting weight.

Not very likely they went with an alloy that is more expensive than a regular lower just to go lighter.

If Magpul ever goes into dev on another gun hopefully they will not sell production rights to BM/Rem to fuckup.

The got rid of two of the features that were selling points for the gun.  Guess I will not be buying a previous ACR variant since they will not be supporting it with calibre change kits.

Sig's latest version of the 556 now has a reversible charging handle, which means you can put it on the left side where the SCAR's and Masada's charging handles are.  That perked my ears up a bit. They are calling it the Sig 556 xi, which I'm guessing means they've already internally documented ten previous versions of the 556.

There is no stress if you never drop it, slam it, disassemble it, etc...
