Hey guys girlfriend just got a ticket in the mail for running a light in Edgewood FL. Pretty much Mayberry with a few traffic lights .
She is an excellent driver and never gets a ticket in 20 years till now. She was driving a rental and that was 1st day with car. Says she was a little nervous and couldn't get to brake quick enough once light turned yellow. Any advice on these. I tend to take everything to court when I get a ticket but this has photographic evidence so to speak. |

Fight the man but you will most likely spend more doing so than paying the ticket. I'm actually not sure if they are moving violations or not. A lot of small towns will move them to non-moving violations especially with such a clean record. Varies by state I believe, in NY no points the cameras are just revenue generation. Like $80 easier to just pay it here. |

Just pay it. I have never had one in Fl, but in NC it is not negotiable, there is no court date, you have no recourse and no opportunity to dispute it or offer a defense. I got stuck in an intersection when a vehicle in front of me was hit by a drunk driver. It was a busy intersection, and there was no way for me to move my vehicle for several light cycles, each time the light would cycle the cameras would do their thing, I got five tickets. It was a company vehicle, I explained the situation to my director, the company paid the tickets. ETA: The pictures were very clear, you could see the wreckage in front of my vehicle in them, in the last picture you can see the cop directing traffic, and none of that mattered, the tickets had been issued and there was no way to dispute them. |

Familiarize yourself with a rental car before hitting the road. Get on with life. |

| I got one for going thru a toll booth in NJ without paying during sandy......after the state to us we didn't have to pay because we were there for disaster recovery....They wouldn't budge so I paid it.......Next hurricane the whole damn state can wash away and ill be watching it from my living room. |

I have no idea how it is legal, or if it is legal, but that is how it worked. These cameras were hoisted upon us as a use of technology to save lives, they are anything but. We were told they would be used at intersections that had above average fatalities from auto accidents, they ended up at intersections where no fatalities had occurred, but the local law enforcement had a history of writing the most failure to obey device tickets. This is a win win for law enforcement, Lockheed provides the cameras at no charge, they maintain them for free, and it relieves traffic officers from spending lots of time writing mundane failure to obey device tickets. Lockheed gets the lions share of the revenue generated, the city gets a nice cut for basically doing nothing, and everybody is happy, except the one in a hundred thousand who get a bogus ticket, they just get fucked. I have heard of anecdotal stories of people with "funny" vanity plates, stuff like "sample" or "dealer", getting hundreds of tickets in the mail because of their actual tag number being associated with drive off tags. |

So does the pic clearly show her operating the vehicle? Or does it just show the license plate and car? The ones here show a pic of the driver and the plate. They will email you a video link if you'd like. Thank God they changed the law and threw out the right on red rollling stop as a violation. They need to get rid of the whole system. |

I moved from NC not long after that incident, and where I have lived since we don't have traffic cameras, so I have no idea if it still works the same way, I would like to think that in the time in between the injustice has been corrected by those able and willing to fight an unfair policy, but I wouldn't hold my breath. |

My girlfriend got hit in New Orleans by a Right Turn On Red camera. She drove through the area all the time and knew about it, but an ambulance with lights and siren on came up behind her, so she turned right instead of just driving straight through.
We called the number on the ticket, and they said that they "review all videos for 15 seconds before and after the infraction, and anything like that would have been noted." Whatever. There is an appeals process, but it would take time and effort we couldnt spare. We just paid. This may be internet myth, but to my knowledge, none of the traffic light cameras anywhere are used for criminal offenses. Just civil stuff. I think it has something to do with the right to confront your accuser? Maybe a GD lawyer will chime in. |

I find it hard to believe that there isn't any recourse. There is always a way to dispute. They may act like pirates but they aren't. |

They may make it hard to renew the tags- but it's on a rental car. |

The yellow light times are often shortened to reduce reaction times specifically to get people to accidentally run them. Cities got to make that dollas! |

Around my parts, before they removed most of the red light cameras, it used to be like this:
Red Light ticket is a civil violation, not a traffic violation. $60 or so fine. Doesn't go on your driving record. Court fees just to fight the ticket started around $150 So most people just paid the ticket. Nice scam for the city huh? Oh and don't forget a bunch of the cities arbitrarily shortened the yellow light just to get more red light tickets (more revenue)

You know TONS of cities have been busted shortening the yellow light time specifically to reduce your reaction time so you will run the light unintentionally? |
