I need a inexpensive mod. I really don't need all the bells and whistles, just good vape for the buck. A few years ago, when this was just a thread in GD, I got into vaping. I bought a lava tube (6.0....I think) and a tank and used it with great success. It was amazing, I got completely off smoking. I quit cold turkey the day my mod and juice arrived. In any case, I was a non-smoker, and non-vaper for two years. But over the last half a year I've fallen off the wagon...again. I haven't kept up with what's good, and gave away all my old equipment tanks and batteries. I bought a blu e-cigarette thinking it might be enough. But it sucks. I need a good simple mod, and tank (or whatever is good), and I don't really want to spend a lot of money. So ARFcom, what do I need? Thanks. |
First dividing line is replaceable batteries or not. Bigger up front cost for replaceable batteries, but you won't have to worry about your mod dying on you if you bring extra batteries
Second, how much is not a lot? For nonreplaceable battery mods, I would look into the istick 30W - relatively inexpensive at about $40, has a spring loaded 510, and can run subohm tanks if you decide to go that route. For a replaceable battery mod, I would consider an IPV mini 2 - be forewarned, they do have finish problems on the black model. But for size and price (about $70, not including batteries and charger), still a mod with good performance. You could also consider a sigelei 50W VR2 For tanks - depends on subohm vs not, and do you plan to rebuild? I've moved more into the subohm tank realm, so not up to speed on the others. I still use a nautilus/silo for some flavors, but mainly use subtank/subtank minis. I have found that the rebuildable section on the subtank mini can be problematic (not making a connection due to the rebuildable base being too short) |

I guess I want batteries, since that is what I had before with the lava tube. It was easy to keep a charged battery always on hand. Rebuildable tanks were just coming into vogue back when I quit. I really have no desire to get into that. I just want good flavor and vapor. I don't need a fog machine, and I'm not enough of a connoisseur to notice slight variabilities. The lava tube did have variable voltage, as did the ejoy batteries. I usually kept it on the highest settings. I don't want to pay over a hundred bucks all in. The less the better. |

Subohm tanks (which have coils that have a resistance less than 1 ohm) have flavors and clouds closer to dripping - but this comes at a price. You go through more juice, and regulated mods that can fire a subohm coil are usually more expensive. All in for less than $100 is going to be near impossible for a mod with replaceable batteries, as a bit of your budget is eaten up by the charger and 2 batteries (batteries about $17 for a pair, and the charger about $20), leaving you $63 for mod, tank, and juice. Given the $100 constraint, I would go with an istick 30W for a regulated mod. For the tank, some of the choice depends on local support (unless you're buying everything online all the time - namely, coils). See what coils your local shops carry. I'm going to recommend a Nautilus tank - I have a fiar amount of experience3 with them, and they give good flavor. Take this with a grain of salt, as I don't know about other, newer non subohm tanks. You might try researching at the ECF forums, but it might get a little tedious. |

I am new to vaping and didn't want to get all technical and everything either. I picked up an iStick50w and a subtank mini and nano,I am very happy with the setups. I rock the Nano most of the time and a tankful will last me about 8-10 hrs and the battery life is great averaging about 3 days. I just plug it in at night when it gets low and am good for 3 more days.
ETA I get about two weeks out of a coil and rewicking the OCC coils is super easy as well. |
| Because of size and replaceable batteries, I chose the Cloupor Mini. It hasn't exploded while charging, so I am happy with it. Samsung INR18650-25R powered & Subtank Nano topped. I have not decided whether or not I prefer 1.25 or .85 coils. 1.2 seem to work best around 12 watts and the sub ohm at 20 watts, depending on ambient temperature. High VG juice too. |

I would get the Mini 2 or Istick 50 watt with whichever subtank you like. My Mini 2 has worked like a champ, but I got black and there is almost no finish left so it looks like shit. The Istick doesn't have removable batteries, but you CAN replace the batteries fairly easily.if it stops holding a charge (there was speculation it was a Lipo pack, and it is really just 2 18650's). |

I just got a SMPL mod, clone by A-Mod. It's about as KISS as you can get. Small, one piece, brass guts/body, vents and a recessed switch. I went to a local place that said they had nemesis clones in stock. When I got there, they did not. In hindsight, I'm happy they didn't because I wouldn't have gotten my SMPL. Yep, everyone gets deeper into the hobby it seems. You almost can't help it, because one way or another, you'll see the newest thing and want one. As to the iStick 50, there are problems with them, and I'd suggest avoiding them. Most people thinking of iStick 50s seem to be going (or replacing) with the MVP 3 instead. And a MVP 3 Pro is going to be hitting soon also. |

For a beginner I would start with a vw mod and a tank, or sub ohm tank. I wouldn't go into rda or mech mods yet
In my experience I use tanks for quitting smoking and mech mods and rda for fun/hobby You really have to pay attention to battery safety when using mech |
