Whether aftermarket add-ons or factory features, "gas pedals" seem to be all the rage. 'Cept they're nothing close to a gas pedal; they are dead pedals. If you call them gas pedals, you're wrong. A dead pedal in a vehicle is stationary; it doesn't move and it serves as a contact point for the driver to help brace themselves with their left foot during normal or spirited driving so as to avoid moving around unnecessarily in the seat. A gas pedal on the other hand, articulates to provide throttle input to accelerate said vehicle. If we're comparing handguns to cars; I suppose a trigger sort of resembles a gas pedal because it makes the gun go "bang." A dead pedal serves to help the shooter brace the thumb of their support hand to gain better control of the pistol and reduce unnecessary movement of the gun in-hand that could affect shot placement/accuracy. Continuing to call these features "gas pedals" is just ill-informed and perpetuates whoever's "creative" idea it was to originally call them this. That person got it wrong and we all just went with it. Fight me.

Hmmm. If this thread is for bitching about dumbass firearms terms, then I’m IN! lol I’m sick of seeing “real estate” used for describing room/space on a rail. That’s gay as fuck. I didn't even know this was an aftermarket thing until I read this thread, nevermind calling it a "gas pedal". WTF. I have a G19, and I like it just fine the way Glock made it. I don't do anything other than make sure it's clean and lubed. I'm a simple man.  I'd have just called it a thumb rest. But that's me. |

The comp helps mitigate flip but you need all you can get with a 9 major load. I don’t find them necessary nor useful on a CO or LO gun. |
