Don't know how many of y'all know about this, but there is a credit card sized desktop that can be purchased for just $35. It is called the Raspberry Pi and runs a form of Debian. Two USB 2.0 ports (it's not supposed to be high performance), SD bootable drive, 1080p HDMI output (with audio over HDMI), RCA video output, and standard stereo output. It is powered by a microUSB port and also features a 100 Mb/s NIC.
I was thinking they would be great for control systems for EE, ME, IE student projects since they are cheap and programmable not to mention, if you ever wanted a computer in your dash…this is certainly small enough and can be easily wired into the electrical system, or as a media server. |
