Went to a new local range today. Very nice setup. Clean shop, mostly hunting guns and older stuff. Airconditioning works well and it has two clean restrooms (A BIG plus for around here, the other local range restroom is very ugly and the wife does not like going becouse of this.) Range is split into three seperate areas, Shotgun (Skeet range), Pistol out to 50 yards, and Rifle wich is further seperated to 5 spots for 100 yards and 5 spots for 500 yards. They even have an ATV to take you out to the 500 yard targets Solid benches for rifle side. Two range masters, 1 for pistol and 1 for rifle. They are good about explaining the range rules, Weapons during Cold time are to be left on the shooting benches, slides locked back/breaches open or some type of flag to show clear. You may reload mags if standing behind a yellow line (approx 5 feet behind shooting bench), Do not handle your fire arm during cold time, exceptions are, weapon has been shown clear and you are either just settng you gear on the bench, or clearing to go home. Range Hot, No problems with Selective fire (I asked, I do not own), No problems with rapid fire. When I asked the RM if they had any problems with me setting up two targets on the pistol side, ( I have a 3 gun match this Sat and am praticing) and if It was OK to stand right on the edge of the Concrete so I could dump my mags on grass instead of the concrete, His response was, "No problem, we only ask that if another shooter comes up on the lane next to you, you respect his lane." Shooting area is covered, approx 200 feet wide and 40-50 deep. Plenty of shade, and a nice breeze. If you are in Eastern NC, Havelock area, I would recomend Sure Shot Range in Havelock.
Brought the Kimber TEL out today, first time in a few months I have been able to put lead down range, 100 rnds today and I was pulling left and high about an inch at 15 yards... Decent grouping, about the size of my fist with some strays. I felt like I was shacking alot on the pistol course today. Brought the AR out and played with a CMMG .22 convertion. Had some initial break in trouble. Wouldn't fully seat the first round and I woulld have to move the bolt forward with my thumb. Other then that, that thing is a hoot to shot. Brought out a SIG 556, This time I had the gas port positioned correctly and it ccled everytime I pulled the trigger...  I like this gun. Very smooth and very accurate. It may be home to my ACOG and work well for a intermidiate range gun. IIt is a bit barrel heavy with a quadrail on it. Also it has a folding stock, may look into having that replaced, I dont like how it feels.

How much does it cost to shoot and do you have to be a member? This definitely looks like somewhere I want to check out if it is reasonably priced. I shot for about two hours, purchased 1 target, 2 soda's and a candy bar and it cost me 17 bucks. Not sure if they have memberships. |
