Nephew killed a rabbit with my ps 90 yesterday. @75 yds with a reflex  from standing.
Told him he had to eat it if he killed it. In-law says not to due to worms/parasites because of weather.
True? Are they less wormy during rabbit season? Southwest Pa.

thats what I have always been told, better eating in the winter time, no parasites/ worms to worry about.. this is what I have heard though so I don't have any real world experience with eating rabbit

Tularemia is the big concern.

Sometimes see lots of unsightly skin issues in warm weather, tons of ticks, fleas, even fly larvae.

I ALWAYS check the liver of EVERY rabbit I eat for signs of tularemia (have tossed suspect TWO rabbits out of many hundreds)

They will have fleas in the winter, too.

Pay careful attention to the insides, cook well, and enjoy! Look for a Spanish recipe with red wine.

Cook it and eat. I have killed 50 rabbits a year for the last 40 years. Never seen one with anything worse than fleas.

Cooked well shouldn't be an issue, but until there's a good hard frost I normally avoid rabbits.  The ones that get in the garden end up in the compost during the summer.  At least they'll be next years tomatoes and not go completely to waste.

Cool.  Didn't know about that specifically.

Lovely to know rabbits carry a disease that's been used in biowarfare for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Now we just need to figure out a delivery method.

Guess you better eat it to destroy the evidence of shooting a rabbit out of season.

Wikipedia drift will lead you straight to the M143 spherical bomblet and other unpleasantness that really makes you glad that at least the Cold War is over.

Call the PGC and ask them. If you give them your address they can tell you if it's edible.

If the bastard is cooked all the way through, no problems.

I would use a summer rabbit for a stew.

No problems if you cook it properly. That other bullshit is just that, bullshit.

Better to eat after first frost, and our season does not start til beginning of November. Check liver for spots. I know the point your trying to make but its not worth the risk.

Nah. You just treat them differently than you would one after the frosts have settled in.
