Just watched it last night along with a few other flicks. It was "okay" at best. Not very reallistic. I forget the main prisoners name, (Bale) but he was kinda excited when he first got to the prison camp when meeting the other prisoners, shaking hands and introducing himself. Just seemed so fake. Also, when he was first taken prisoner and asked to sign the paper, he acted like in real life they would have given him a choice. He was like F-you and he didn't get tortured or beaten for that. I'm sure in real life they probably like ripped off your fingernails or something painful to make you do what they wanted. The torture wasn't very realistic either, except for maybe the water hole they stuck him in, because he always seemed like he wasn't scared. In real life POW situations, I'm sure the VC knew how to make prisoners feel true pain. He acted like he wasn't scared at all the entire time. The end was pretty good though, when they finally got back to the carrier and he asked where everyone was, and then he looks out and they're all waiting for him to step out. Anyway, I watch every movie at least once. This one already got the delete button. |
| I enjoyed it, but I think Little Dieter Needs to Fly tells the story better, since it's a documentary and Dieter Dengler is the one telling the story. It's definitely worth seeing. |
Apparently they changed a bunch of things that didn't really make the story more interesting, just less accurate. Why? RF |

I just picked it up today at Walmart. $19.96 for Rescue Dawn or $19.96 for Rescue Dawn coupled with a special edition, 2 disk The Great Escape. DUH!!!!!! About 2/3s thru TGE, will watch RD sometime this weekend. And if it sucks that's okay, I still have a 2 disk classic. |

I thought it was AWESOME! Alright, I'm not one of those guys that has a heart attack and can't get through a movie though if the helicopters are camo painted. It was a TRUE story and stayed very true to the book as written by the man who the movie is based off so those saying this wouldn't have happened like that are sort of calling this now deceased Vet/POW a liar. I'm sure not every POW situation went down the same way every single time. He had been beaten and he was abused, but his ultimate guards were just dumb local guys and not hardcore regulars. The thing to see this movie for is Christian Bale's acting, which as always is top notch. He didn't over play the German accent, but you could hear it slightly and that was great. Even his movements, actions, expressions all reminded me of German folks I know (hard to describe). Probably the part that might get a nod from the Academy though was the Supporting Role of the Air Force Pilot. Man, that guy broke my heart watching it and he really looked like someone who had been just at the edge of being broken for a long time. |
