How often do you really use it?  I use them at work for filming tests, etc., so I am familiar with their capabilities and quality but does the average owner really get their money's worth from it?

I filmed something every time I left the wire during my deployment in '14.

Also, a bit of quadcopter flying, and I plan to start filming my USPSA matches as well.

I want one of the new sessions.  I currently have a gopro 3 black.

Every time I feel I'm going to be doing something interesting enough to bring it (lately though thats just simple sky time lapses because I'm housebound for a while), I'm notoriously heavy handed and I refuse to baby any of my stuff so the gopro works well for me. I wasn't too sure about the gopro when I got my first one so I just went with the standard HERO to see if I got on with it and upgraded in the future.

We've used it a good bit on the wakeboard and water skis.  Good video and some great still shots from the tip of a ski.

Also did some roller coasters at Disney in 2012.  I'm not certain but I think their policy on allowing this might have changed.

We stopped using it on the water ski though - the tip of a water ski actually vibrates a lot and while the video wasn't so bad it did cause the think to unclip and fly up roughly 20 ft in the air whizzing past the face of the skier.

I use for my kids events, hunting trips, and sometimes when running my trap lines.

Just used it for an alligator hunt with my Dad. Saw lots of them just couldn't get hooked up. But having the GoPro helped a lot in recording the time and activity with my aging father.

I would say yes I get my money's worth from it.

sometimes I put it in the toilet just to make sure everything came out ok.

I don't record every aspect of my daily life, but I use it often enough.

Just one dive trip's worth of videos makes it worth it.

Planning to try and use it tonight actually. See if I can catch a raccoon on camera.

This guy in particular:

I love my go pro.  Bought it at the beginning of summer.  Used it a lot.  Filmed my kids at the pool, river, shooting range.  Attached it to my rifle with the sportsman mount.  Plan on attaching it to my fishing pole in a few weeks with the same mount.

Best part about it I think are its underwater shots.  Gave it to my kids and they took many cool underwater shots.

Well worth the money IMO. GoPro Hero 4 silver.

Bought a GoPro 2 just before GoPRo3 came out and used it quite often when I got chance to shoot(training, competition). Great little thing to record my performance( lack thereof ).

Bought one that met it's end while white water kayaking on the main salmon river a few years ago. Bought another one to take with me to hawai and kauai for snorkeling etc. Brought it home and then realize it was just sitting, now I take it with me to idpa etc and get to watch my match screw ups over and over.

I bought mine for a vacation but really decided I also like taking pictures with it.  I use it pretty regularly including the range from time to time.  I would buy it again.  Hero 4 black by the way.

I have a 3 and 4 black, bust them out for everything from the kids playing in the pool, to vacations.  The immediate family, and extended family is fairly large, and we spend quite a bit of time doing activities like boating, watersports, offroading, etc. so I definitely feel like I get my money's worth.
They are a very versatile camera; I happened to have one on hand for my youngest sister's wedding and threw together a pretty good video for her that was received fairly well; it won't get me into the ASC, but I enjoy "filming", and post production.
Capturing the smiles on my kids faces while we do something stupid, fun, or both is why I got one...

*Edit*

Speaking of versatile, even the barrel distortion associated with a gopro can be used to your advantage.

I use it during autocross and karting every run... so basically every week or two it gets a good using. ETA I've also strapped it to my rc car a few times

If you don't plan on using it much, the knock off Xiaomi Yi cameras are actually quite good. Get the camera and case for ~$100 (case is sold separately) works with all the regular gopro mounts:

Found them all while diving, it's amazing the things people lose around docks and marinas.
Sold one last week for $250, money is going toward my new Kayak.

And that is why I have a text file on the SD card with my contact information.  Its a long shot, but in the case the safety lanyard and floaty door fails at the same time, I can count on the honesty of a complete stranger to ensure the return of my camera.

LOL!

Hit the nail on the head.

I have had offers to work at two of the local TV stations.  I turned them both down because I don't want to edit the stories.

As for the OP question.  I don't use mine a whole lot and I have two of them,  But when I need or want a compact high quality camera they come in very handy.  When I have time I and the need I will use the big dog,  Other wise I will use the little guy.

I can drag this out..

Or this...

Yeah, I do try to find a contact on the pics and videos, if folks would even take time to tag their camera I'd do my best to get it back to them.
Must have found at least 20 working cameras over the past couple of years.

Not often enough.

I built a mount to attach it anywhere on my bumpers or rock sliders on my offroad truck. Same mount came in really handy when trying to diagnose a rear end noise in same truck, allowed me to see the drivetrain and suspension in motion from in the cab (wifi to my ipad).

I have also strapped it to my RC car and chased the dags around with it. I do want to make a dag harness for some dogcam, squirrel chasing action.

Mostly it sits in my desk drawer collecting dust since I haven't had time to offroad.

Have a 4 Silver.

Bought it and a bunch of accessories.

Works well, but I'd be better off with a conventional cam.

Most dangerous thing I've done with it was hide it on a shelf and activate it with my iPad when the wife unit was eating and ragging on me after I purposely set her off.

She does not like to play Candid Camera.

I need to get rid of it before I mount it on the bike and go do something stupid.

The pics of my kids underwater in the pool are worth the price of the thing alone, much less the biking pics and video.

Have a 3 black. Wish it was a little less hassle. Battery life is ok. I always forget to charge it before we head out to do stuff.

I'm just here to see what you guys do with them.

I bought a Faux-Pro recently, to film my Jeep rides.

I can't come up with a reason to pay $400 for one, so I paid $36 to see if I could come up with one.

I loaned my stepdad my gopro to film one of his jeep adventures. 2 days of trail riding. He hasn't given me permission to upload the video, but I'll ask.

As for what I do with mine...dive videos, and recently I caught some raccoons on camera.

Here's an example dive video

One of the coolest things I ever did with my gopro..well, it wasn't even me.

I was in the Philippines and found one of those fire dance shows.

I talked to the performers and well, this happened.

It's a bit jarring and shaky, but it's really cool to see what it's like from their perspective.

That's way better than what I'm getting, but it WAS $36.

I figure if I really like it, I can always get a real one. But if I don't use it much, well, I'm out $36. Even the entry-level GoPro's are $130.
