I'm heading back to the USA soon and I'm taking 10 days PTDY at my new duty station.  So, when it starts, I'm supposed to sign in at my new duty station when the PTDY begins and look for a house, right?  I mean, what else does the Army expect for me to do during these 10 days I have?  Thanks in advance for any information.

I used to use the last of it to go fishing. After the stresses of finding a new home, unpacking and all the fun stuff that goes with it I was ready for some R&R.
10 days is plenty of time, get a 12 pk and find a quiet place to chill before the new job starts.

I hear ya.  I'm just afraid, "What if I don't find a place?" or "What is my new unit going to think if I don't find a new place to live?".  10 days is a lot of time to shame out or not find a home.

I'm about to PCS to Lewis and I'm taking 10days PTDY in conjunction w/ 4 days of travel.  Sure as fuck, I'm not signing in until 2359 on the 10th.  Sign in early and start in processing early.  I had a guy get screwed like that a few months ago.  He had a month of leave, had to sign in to get base housing, they made him start in processing, and a week later he was in the field.

If you are taking leave in conjunction with PTDY be sure to sign into installation housing so they can stamp your DA31.  Your orders should stipulate this.  Otherwise you will be charged regular leave for those 10 days.

I have a townhouse now.  I was talking to some of the guys and found out some stuff I didn't know.  B/c the difference in BAH is so much (almost $500) I'm going to sign in on the 3rd.  That way I'm signing in on a friday, thus getting the weekend off before I have to start inprocessing.  I thought I could sign into post and not inprocess until the 10th, but thats a no go.  Once you sign in, you gotta start.  So I'm going to suck it up and hope my gaining unit will give me PTDY.  But my orders don't say anything about signing into housing.  Thats news to me.  I'm trying to work the system here, but I don't think I have the knowledge on this one.
