I remember back when his name was bantered around as a potential candidate for POTUS.

A lot of Democrats keep saying that "John McCain is too old" and other non-sense.

I wonder if they would have said the same thing about Powell, since he is only 1 year younger than McCain.

I remember Powell being called an "Uncle Tom" and much worse by Dems. And since he will not be in line for the Pres age is irrelevant.

Race before country, apparently.  I used to have respect for that man.

It was a hypothetical question (if he had run/gotten the nomination), I know how presidential succession goes.

I just doubt that many people realize that he is 71 years old.

I never had any respect for him ever. Much too non conservative for me.

Its been quite a while since I've had any respect for him.

This is no surprise at all.

I never respected his political accomplishments. He was always a liberal. Nothing has changed - just another RINO like my State Senators.

+1

I had and still have respect for him as a general. As a politician and a person, though... I have lost all of it.
