One of the best multi role fighters of it's time... Such a waste.

I know our boys need practice but do those drones actually provide realistic training.  I guess a better way of asking is will they maneuver well enough to put up a fight being flown from the ground?

ETA: all of the videos I've seen the target was flying in a straight line.

I'd beet there are a lot of country's that would die to have F16s in their arsenal.

I'll be much happier seeing lawn darts get splashed than my beloved Phantoms.

Not clapped out old A/B models with no useful service life left.

Not really.
They are either F-16A's or B's with the smaller intake / F-100-P200 engines, the airframes don't have a lot of life left on them, the systems are not common with "modern" F-16's and no one wanted to buy them.
Having them become drones is the best use for them.

I'm okay with it.  They're just collecting dust.

At least they're going out serving one last useful purpose instead of just being another object of decay.

However awesome those planes where, they are outdated tech. I'd rather see them not blown to bits too, but utilizing them in a useful manner sure is a whole lot better than having them rot in the desert for decades.

this is not for ACM...

it's meant to try systems, like missiles, target systems etc..

And "Viper drivers".

A lot of them are being crossed over to UAS drivers.

I guess the good news is, the US can afford to throw away fighters better than most countries will ever have.

Arrogant?  Yea, hell yea!
