I'm curious, how many pushups can arfcom do? A member of similar build recommended I try this program. http://www.hundredpushups.com/week1.html It kicks my ass, but is entirely doable. Normally, my max is 25 a day (I haven't done it in 6 months, but I was able to get to 25 for the "test" portion before form went to shit) So, I just calculated it, I'm on day 2 and I just did 53 pushups. It hurts like a mother fucker. ![]() But yeah, hopefully in 6 weeks I will be able to do 100 pushups. I'm also doing the "200 situp" program, and am considering the 200 squat program. I am out of shape, and have a month and a half before the physical torture of college marching band starts. ![]() So, I'll call my max 25. How many pushups can you folks do? |

A correct pushup is a very rare thing. Very correct statement...some of the ones I see the guys doing @ the gym and the crossfit "experts" makes me wonder.... Where they look like they're doing the worm as they rape the gym mat with their heads in the clouds? |

When I feel like showin' up my young whippersnapper 13 year old son I can eek out 40, which I thought wasn't too shabby for a 300 lb lard ass using proper technique. But...then it was his turn...
Last count he was at 55...[ It appears I have alot of work ahead of me. |

When I was in Airborne School in 1979 an Airborne Sergeant dropped me for pushups and he started counting.
At "164" he told me to recover and get up. I don't think I could have made it to 175 so I'm glad he got tired of counting when he did.
I can probably max out now around 60 continuous proper push-ups. I'm 49 years old. |

50 or so
But i've been doing weight resistance for the past month and half which is 3 different pushup exercises supersetted with a core or cardio exercise. Before that I was at 15 |

Probably 10 atm. Low carbing and am weak like a kitten.
I've never been able to do more than 30+ pushups straight, even when I was in the army and doing 90+ good form for the pt test. Not sure if this will help anyone on a pt test, but my strategy was to do break it into groups and take a 1-2 second pause between them. 20 easily, then 15, then 10, then 10, then 10, then 5 until I got bored or hit 90. It wasn't until I hit ~60 that I'd even feel a burn. Did the same for situps. Going to failure then trying to eke out more is why people end up flat on their face. Good for training, bad for testing. |

I do 2 sets of 70 in my daily workout right now, my goal is 2 sets of 100. of coarse I have been at it quite awhile. Fisrt set comes easy, second set at the end comes slow and painfully, but thats progress.
for me the trick was doing 10 perfect ones several times a day until I started being able to do alot at once. perfect form and lowering youself slower will result in getting stronger faster than sloppy ones. |

I can still do 100, but it hurts a lot more than it used to, not burn, actual pain starting at 1 in all my joints and muscles and then a sharp pain starts to build in my ribs at about 35.
It's odd actually I feel quite a bit weaker than I used to from the very beginning of a set but I seem to reach the failure point at about the same reps, maybe I'm just pushing farther than I did when I was younger. I usually do 50 every morning, I wake up with a lot of muscle pain and it seems to help getting some blood into them and a little burn going. I have an odd musculature, lots of slow twitch I think it is they said, I can push a lot of weight but can't jump or run very fast. It sucks getting older. |

You need to do push ups every other day, not every day. You need to give the cells in your body time to heal and allow your joints to relax during that time. |

I take "smoke breaks" throughout the day.
I do 100-120 push-ups (elevated two days a week) each time I hit the ground. When I can't break 80 I'll get up and shake it off for a minute and knock out another 30. It's unusual for me to do less than 500 a day. (weekends are fair game) It also takes less than two minutes and resets my brain housing group nicely for the monotony of the job I have. |
