OK, so a fellow Parole Officer and myself out one night earlier this week conducting home visits. It's about 10pm and we knock on the door of one of his ISP (ankle monitor) parolees. After five minutes of bangin on the door and bedroom window, there is still no answer, so we check to see if he is in range and determine that he is. We draw our pistols and get ready to consider calling in backup for a possible forced entry.

Then Mr. Parolee opens the front door with his hands up, so we bring him and sit him down on the couch. I monitor him while my parter proceeds to the parolees room to rip it apart. Once there, he sees Mr. Parolees girlfriend in the room so he tells her to go sit on the couch with Mr. Parolee that I'm watching.

As she walks past him, she says "Shit". Then, as she walks past me toward the couch, she again says "Shit". After glancing at her face, my jaw drops, and I say "Holy Shit."

It was a female employee from my department that works in Admin, and therefore "of course" not allowed to associate/fornicate with parolees.

The next day, my partner and I tell her that she would have to inform management about the association or we would have to do it ourselves. We also remind her that its best that way, so as to not seem to be hiding anything, in case she wants to run with the "I didn't know he was on parole" story. Two days go by, and she still hasn't said anything, so we inform management.

Being that she was a cool chick to work with, it was hard for us to spill the beans, but we both agreed that our jobs are much more important than trying to protect her.

I know that alot of women out there are attracted to the Bad Boy types, but this one sure screwed the pooch on this one. Now a State Attorney General Investigation gets initiated and everything.

And to show you really how stupid she is, she got her Bad Boy parolee boyfriend to request permission from his PO (my partner) to live with her.

Like the title says.....Pure Stupidity...!!!

Well, she'll be sucking on that pride... or whatever it is... long and hard.

Two things I know I could never be are a CO and a parole/probation officer.  I knew a retired federal PO officer who told me a fucked up story about one of his probationers: the guy was out of prison in WITSEC, was aware he had AIDS, and was fuckin every women he met (AIDS unaware).  Ethical nightmare.

I did Probation (non Post certified) first, then moved to Parole (Post Certifed) and can definately say that Parole is more fun, as you are 50% case manager and 50% cop. Of course the paperwork and Parole Board hearings suck, but the field work is usually pretty fun. Just two weeks ago I got to kick one of my parolees door in, as I found out he did a robbery an hour earlier. I love sending guys like that back to prison. And on the flip side, I do get to help those 25% of parolees that really do wanna stay clean and get their life together and be productive members of society.

We even hook up with various PD's for gun grants and occasional high risk stuff. I think the sweetest thing is that parolees have little-to-no 4th Amendment rights, so we can search their homes and person at any time for any reason. That's the thing that most narcs are jealous of.

But it's definately a dangerous job, as 100% of our people are convicted felons. Definately not a job for everyone. But still.....we make is fun.

You guys make me want to switch to being a PO...

We definitely have had a lot of similar situations in my prison.  One of the inmates in my cellhouse was having a relationship with the Sgt assigned there.  She of course was ejected immediately.  He still gets mail from her once a week or more, and she's supposedly picking him up when he gets released.  This all happened over two years ago.

I've been at the DOC just under two years, and in that time more than 10 people have been fired for relationships with inmates.

Good on you for reporting it.  I cannot understand what appeal they have on some women, especially if they've worked inside a facility.

We do a thing called "operation nighthawk" around here.  It is PO's going out with local officers and conducting home checks.  Rarely do I make it to three places before one is going to jail.

Maybe it is me but if I just got out and a judge says "don't do this or I will put you back in" the last thing I would do is "this", whatever that may be.

You guys gave her the option to do right and maybe get out OK.  It still sucks but you did do the right thing.

I'm sure its on a case-by-case basis. Probably depends if the Officer facilitated or turn the other cheek to something illegal, aside from the relationship itself.

I know of one Parole Agent who dated a parolee. The relationship ended when said parolee ventilated his brain outside the agent's home on her front lawn. She eventually promoted and became a Board of Prison Terms (at the time) Commissioner.

CDC is a soap opera. You guys would not believe half the shit that goes on up in here.
