So, project beater has been fun, and a great daily. I dynoed it today: 2011 Crown Vic Police Interceptor Dyno (e85+Tune+3.73's) MOD List: -New plugs NGK4177's gapped 0.045" -Marty e85 Tune -Ceramic tint -Windshield XPEL film -Plug/Play bluetooth radio -LED headlights -LED spotlight conversion from Unity -NOS shocks/struts, fleet/PI rated -NOS sway bar end links -All fluids properly serviced -3.73's -Trac-lok rebuild ( was fine, done when the gears were though) -New bearings in the rear end all around (still whines---whatever) -New Ford OEM Coils -Marauder paper OEM air filter (flows better) -DWS06+ tires (The used tires on it actually ran better times by 0.19 seconds and almost 1 mph in the quarter, with them, it ran a 15.01@ just under 93mph on my Dragy)/Nokian studded for snow. Nice looking CV. Still one of my favorite cars. One was my office for almost 20 years as a LEO. I drove a square one when I started. They were reliable. Only engine I can remember that had a problem was when a Sergeant hydro locked it while driving through a large puddle. Fuel pumps gave up occasionally also. Fastest I ever went in one was 124 mph. I was probably held back a little by the light bar. |

This car is very stable, even in snow. Very predictable. |

The 4.6 in these cars are way under-stressed. They are designed with durability in mind more so than horsepower. They excel in that area. The engine will generally outlast the car. It's not uncommon to see them run for 300K or more. Body on frame design. They handle well for their size. They are roomy, and comfortable to sit in for 8 to 12 hours a day. There is a reason the taxi companies use them, and try to buy up as many of them from auctions as they can. The weak parts of the panthers are transmission, electric fuel pump, and blend door actuator (AC system). That blend door actuator is a major PITA to change. The 4R70 transmission works well and lasts a long time if used for normal driving. Not so much for Police car use. But..they are fairly easy to rebuild and make them stronger. Lost of aftermarket performance parts available. If Ford still made them, I'd buy a new one tomorrow... |
