Both I and another member have sent IMs to folks and it doesn't seem that they got them. Is there a problem with the IM system?

Here's my issue:
On 5/24, another poster sent me a long IM, and I responded at length. I never heard back from them. Some days later, I sent another response. No answer. Then, night before last, I sent them another response....no answer. Up until now, that poster and I have frequently exchanged IMs for years now....and the last one they sent me was fairly deep and complicated and specifically asked for some opinion/advice. Well, I thought this was all too odd, so, knowing they had also sent them same IM to O_P on or about the same time they sent it to me, I asked O_P (tonight) if he knew why the other poster was ignoring me. He didn't respond, but he did email me on another matter. I responded to that email, and he got it. At that point, apparently both of us realized that our IMs weren't working right. In this same timeframe (since at least 5/24) I have had other IMs from other posters, so I know it's not ALWAYS broke.

Oh, FWIW, Goatboy, my IM notification up top is broke, too. As these messages came in, I never got a notification (neither as a popup, nor in the top left corner) indicating that I had a new IM. |

It makes no sense they would show up late as it's instant once it's written in. There's no spooling or anything which would delay a delivery. The only thing I can think is some sort of browser caching is going on and showing you old pages. There might be something with the session as well, like it's not updating your data properly, but that only accounts for the display of the icon up top and not the IM box not showing the message. Do you keep a window open with the IM page? Which browser are you using? Are your sent IMs making it out to OP? |

I rarely keep an IM window open after my new messages are read and replies sent. Let me try to respond to O_P and see if he gets it...... |
