I have a new puppy and I'm wondering which puppy food you would give your puppy. Pro Plan or Blue Buffalo?

Ex-wife raises Bernese Mountain Dogs and swears by Blue Buffalo for dogs and pups. Hers are always healthy, alert and very active.

Skip both and go with Taste of the Wild.  They have a puppy version now.

Look at the main ingredients. That should tell you.

+1 for Blue

+2. The grain free BB has been recording a lot of cases of recurring diareaha. We have switched our dogs to Taste of the Wild.

I use TOTW, but would have no issues using blue buffalo.

My dog eats Taste of the Wild and loves it. There are plenty out there that are highly rated, depends more on what your pup likes and you can afford.

Another vote for Blue Buffalo.  My sensitive stomach mal eats the sh*t out of it.

Changed my dog to Fromm's noticeably less shedding. I get the gold foil one, first ingredient is duck.

Blue Buffalo makes cat food.

My big tom is worth "the good stuff."

Is BB tier one food for cats, too?

Yep. Same quality ingredients as their dog food line.

Seriously check out this site.  I thought Pro Plan was good dog food, but it's shit.  Not bottom of the barrel, but pretty close.

That said, even Puppy Chow is a better balanced diet than most people eat.

Spring for the good stuff if you can.  If you can't or don't want to, check out Kirkland, Costco's brand.  Rates very well on all the dog food sites.

I have my puppy on this, he's doing very well.

I'm thinking about switching my other dogs to it too.

Venison and bison.  Damn dog is eating better than me.

To answer the question, I had my dogs on pro plan and went thru a big bag per week.

Switched to 4Health, and go thru a big bag every 2 weeks.  They get more out of it, eat less and shit less.

Should improve even more with TotW.  Blue Buffalo is supposed to be really good stuff too.

Some good info here.

We have an English bulldog and when we switched to Blue Buffalo her health problems cleared up very fast.  It's the only food we buy for her now.

This guy eats Orijen. We started with BB but it tore his stomach up. He isnt even nine months yet and I took this pic with my six year old about an hour ago.

we feed our GSB pup a mix of Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken Recipe for Puppies and Eukanuba Puppy Large Breed.  We went with the Euk alone initially because of a recommendation from a family friend who is a vet and has 2 GSDs and we added the BB Wilderness after reading Dog Food Advisor (listed above).

FWIW, the Euk is easier to find and is cheaper for us.  BB Wilderness can get expensive.

ETA- look at Kirklands (Costco brand). Highly rated on Dog Food Advisor (4 Star) and I have seen it recommended a few times on here.  Not sure of the price because I'd rather shoot myself in the face with #7 birdshot than go into the shitshows that are the Costcos around here.

I gave my dog pro plan and he got a rash so bad his fur was falling out in bleeding chunks.  Blue is one of the best foods you can buy.  BUT, you have to transition slow or they'll get the runs.
