The round piece broke off. I was like wtf. Can I get a generic power cord and wire it up? I will make sure it is the same rating at my current power cord. This is the first time in my life that a "pin" has broken off a power cord. |

Yep, a DIY good plug is the easiest. If the cord itself is in bad shape then I’d be tempted to replace the whole thing. The last one I got for 240 I got from Grainger, it was on clearance so it was cheap and a good quality. Other similar not clearanced ones there were not cheap. |

My table saw is 2 years old. The cord is a great shape. I still have no idea how a prong just fell off. I will head to a big box store tomorrow to get a new plug. |

If the load is pulling too many amps, a plastic plug can get hot enough to soften the plastic enough to let a blade pull loose. Any other signs of being overloaded, OP? Bogging down, saw motor reset, kicking breakers...? |

If current caused it to get hot enough to soften the plastic around the ground, how did the actual conductors not melt? |

I wired it up based on the jacket color once I cut the cord off. Black was on the bottom so I was wired to the ground Green was wired to the left (bigger blade contact) White was wired to the right (smaller blade contact) Am I ok to start my saw or will it melt the connector? The broken plug was only held in by two small connection. The plug was inadvertently "wiggled" after stepping on it. That is what broke it. Stupid design for a power cord. |
