So my neighbor comes to my house today and informs me he saw a bear in my other neighbor's driveway.  I'm still skeptical at this point because they didn't get pictures, it's hard to believe.  Three members of their family confirmed what they saw was a black bear.  I live in the country part of town on 13 acres with farms around me, so it doesn't seem impossible.  Anyway, I loaded the AR with TAP cause that's the 'most lethal' stuff I could find.  Any hints on where to shoot it?  I was thinking 30 rounds of TAP to the skull should do a good job.  Updates when/if they come.

If you actually NEED to shoot a bear, you will not have time to fire 30 rounds.

post count too low for a Bear draw down. Sorry

You can only shoot it if it's a direct threat to you.

Call the proper authorities (DNR) and have them come relocate it.

The DNR will make a fine example out of you.

Just get a huge can of "Bear" pepper spray. That should do the trick

I don't plan on shooting it unless it's close enough to my house to be a threat.  Other people might becuase there's livestock around and such.  I don't want to call the authorities because I didn't see it.  Thanks for the welcome,  I've been here for awhile I just didn't start posting.

A black bear usually isn't a threat to humans, unless its a female protecting young or other wise provoked.  They usually go out of their way to avoid human contact.

That's good news.  Like I said before..I don't plan on shooting it unless I absolutely have to.  If my dog goes out I'll just go out with him.  Believe me, I'm not going to do anything that will end with me being the subject of the next Darwin Award thread.

I would have absolutely no problem with using an AR to shoot a Black Bear. They are not as tuff as most would have you believe!

People shoot them with .223's in Alaska all the time!

That's good news if the need to shoot it arises.  I don't plan on needing to though.

Pop a round in the ground or air.  It will leave, you won't go to jail.

What is with the people that decide to live in a rural area and want to kill any animal that comes on their property.
If it is not the aggressor, leave it alone.

I would not shoot the bear out of hand. A black bear is just a raccoon on steroids. I have hunted and fished around them a lot and never had any trouble with one. They are not a varmint.

From my understanding, a dead bear can run 100 yards.

Why shoot it? Bear meat sucks to eat, if it's getting in the trash call the DNR.

Here toy go.

proper tool for the job would indicate that a 5.56mm weapon is the wrong choice for Black Bear.

First off guys, I never said I wanted to shoot the bear.  If I wanted to shoot something I would go hunting.  Like I said, I haven't actually seen the bear yet, so I don't want to call Gmae and Fish.  I'm not gonna just shoot the bear because I want to shoot something

TAP as the "most lethal" choice?  WTF

Sounds like a perfect excuse to buy some new guns

From what I read, it'd be a better choice than range/plinking ammo wouldn't it?
