I have 4 images in this post.
The first two are mine taken both outside in the sun and inside a white box.

The frame is getting so washed out. It is supposed to look something like the third image.
Any changes to bring out the color in the frame turns the slide to a dark black and Kimber is not even visible.

1 - What settings are best to use when taking a picture of an item with two drastically different color tones.

2 - Using CS4, how can the first two picture become similar to the third.

3 - Is it even possible to get any of these two pictures to come even close to what appears in the forth picture?

You'll need to light it more evenly.  A reflector on the left would help.

I actually saw that URL as well as the DIY box on this site.
Here is the box I have with the same two lights which weren't turned on at the time of the picture.  One item I am not doing is using the flash as I do set the custom white balance.
