Lately my wife has been cutting the grass due to my work schedule.  She said the last time she mowed, the mower sounded funny.  I went to cut the grass today and had a hell of a time starting it.  When it finally turned over all sorts of white smoke poured out.  At that point, I figured she had put the wrong gas in it.  She must have poured in the oil/gas mix.

After a few minutes of running, it stopped smoking and is running ok.  It doesn't seem to be running as good as usual though.  Should I be concerned?  Or should I just run it and not worry.

Running 2 stroke mixed gas in a four stroke usuually won't harm anything. (exception being the spark plug)

Swap out the plug and give it another go

Mix gas would make blue smoke--and not "pouring out."  White smoke means something else--but I don't know what.  I would run it a bit more and see what it does.

Ok I just spoke to the wife by phone and she swears she used the right gas.  I noticed a drip from the gas line and I dont think that is good.  Could oil also be getting into the gas?  I don't know much about engines so I will probably have to take it somewhere to get repaired or take a chance and try to fix it.

Ask her if she tipped it over.

Edit:  For any reason--cleaning it or whatever.

white smoke is engine oil. check oil level and then change the spark plug. I'll bet it's been turned on its back or side for cleaning and some oil found its way into the cylinder. oil may also have collected in the muffler producing the "hillbilly mosquito fogger"

Blue smoke is oil.  But since we are talking about an aircooled mower well go with that because its not black.  My bet is either mix gas, tipped it over on the exhaust side to wash it, or what i see alot, poured 2 quarts of oil in it because 'it wasnt full'

I know my wife did not tip it over especially for cleaning.  She swears she used the regular gas, but I think not.  Oh well as long as it runs ok who cares.  I think I killed every bug in my yard with the smoke that was pouring out.

I have a 6.5 Briggs engine on my mower and when the spark plug needs changing it will start to puff white smoke on start up, especially if the engine is already hot on a restart.  JAT

Make sure you know EXACTLY WHERE she "Put in the gas"....

She might have "Filled" the crankcase with gas!

probably overfilled with oil. Drain it and refill it with right amount of oil.
