Using BitTorrent 6.0.3.  No matter how many seeds a torrent has, when I try to download it, I get nothing.  I've been using Pirate Bay and Demonoid.  Last week I could get things to start. Now, nothing.  I don't think I fucked with anything.  Is there something I can do, or do I just FAIL at teh interwebz?

ETA: I just started using this last week.

what is this spyware that you speak of?

to the OP:
is it possible your ISP is messing with you?
who do you use for internet access?
also, can you see the swarm or is it reported as 0?

I use "Northland Cable" it's what my apartment came with.  My room mate seems to be having no problems downloading, though it is slow as hell.  Like 25-30kb/s.

If the swarm is peers, then yes.  I see something that looks like this:  0(231).  For seeds, even though the torrent said there are like 3000 seeds, it looks like 0(0) when I try to download it.

if your router wasn't configured correctly (port forwarding) and you and your roommate are using the same bittorrent client that uses the same ports for bittorrent data, it might cause a conflict.

who configured your router?  are you using uPnP to open ports on the router?
do you have a static IP address?  do you implement "reserved" IP addresses for your local network?
i would try to take your roommate's pc off the network temporarily and see what happens.

Edit for clarity

I didn't either until I noticed the similarities and checked it out.  From the wiki:

Since version 6.0, the BitTorrent client is a rebranded version of µTorrent. As a result, its source is closed, and this version of the program is currently only available for Windows (although, like µTorrent, the FAQ suggests to use it in Wine).

Prior to version 6.0, BitTorrent was written in Python, and was free software. The source code for versions 4.x and 5.x are released under the BitTorrent Open Source License, a modified version of the Jabber Open Source License. Versions up to and including 3.4.2 were distributed under the MIT license.

I don't have a clue about any of that.  My router is locked up in a box though, so I can't examine it in any way.  I'll try to see what happens next time he gets off.  He's got a few torrents downloading right now.

Piece of cake. Download <ahem OP> UTorrent <ahem OP> and then go to Mininova.org and click on what you want.

Select "open with UTorrent" and it should come up.

I have a few torrents downloaded and I have NEVER seen a virus.

IM Subnet.

He should be able to tell you which port needs opened and how to access it. May try a title change as well.

I dont think it's a torrent issue, probably, as stated above, is a port issue.

My problem is my stupid ass modem hates torrents.  It tends to just randomly freeze up when I'm downloading so I have to unplug the damn thing every couple minutes sometimes.

Really screws up my pr0n downloads.  I used to be able to leave it running over night or when I'm working and by the time I get back to it its downloaded and fully seeded to maintain my ratio, BUT NOOOO.

The man is trying to keep my pr0n in check.

My Netgear router was blocking uTorrent  until I followed on-line instructions to configure the router and Windows XP.  It's not possible to give universal step by step instructions since there are so many routers and firewalls in use.

It's not a seeder issue.  The current torrent has over 3500, with 26 being downloaded from. Only 20kb/s, with a 60kb/s spike.

Go to options<preferences<connection< and see if there is a maximum download rate. Change it to 0 in both boxes for unlimited up and down, I change it to about 50 up<75 down if I still want to surf while I download.

well, at that link (192.168.0.1) I told you to go to earlier would usually give you a login screen...since it didnt, I think the owner changed the login to page to something else. you should contact them to open the port.
