BREAKING NEWS Pope John Paul II has been given the last rites of the Roman Catholic Church as his health deteriorates, a Vatican source tells CNN. CNN.com main page |

I am very sorry to hear this news. The Pope has always been a strong man throughout his life. I have read a few books about him and his courage has inspired me. (fighting Nazis,Communism etc) I pray for his health but in the event this is the end, I thank him for devoting his life in the way he did and for the great man he has always been. |
| At a time when the power of faith and even of God was widely ridiculed by governing elites, JP2 joined with Ronald Reagan to use religious faith and a belief in God-given human dignity to destroy an evil, expansionist, godless, monstrous empire without firing a shot. That is greatness. |

He was a good Pope. A little weak with dealing with the pedophile priests under his command tho. I remember the previous Pope. He was Pope for only 30 days and was found dead in bed. Autopsies are not performed on Popes. I don't know all about bible prophecy and what the next Pope will provide us. But, if he is a short lived Pope, maybe they should change their rules about autopsies. It does look bad right now for John Paul II |
The language I'm hearing from the Vatican suggests that he'll never be plugged in. He has a feeding tube, but there are what I take to be hints that no extraordinary measures will be taken. I'd be shocked if he went on a ventilator. ETA, he is 83 years old, after all. |

St Malachi's Prophecy According to St. Malachi's prophecy, from 850 yrs ago, there would only be 111 popes following Pope Celestine II, who died in 1146 AD. John Paul II is the 110th pope after Celestine II. The prophecy claims that the next and final pope would rule from Rome during the Tribulation. We should make sure that we are ready for the coming if Jesus Christ. |
I don't know the whole story, but I believe that there was an old catholic saint who was allegedly a prophet, and who made some arguable accurate descriptions of those who would occupy the papal throne from his time up until the last one, who would be some kind of servant of the anti-christ. Pope JP II was suppossed to be somewhere near the end of the list. |
I have read that Jonh Paul II has also stated this, he said a "black pope" I dont know if this is literally "black" or "black in the sense of evil. |
St. Malachy, in 1139 had prophecies writen about the Popes. According to him we have one more before the last Pope comes in and brings the anti-chirst. It's interesting but I was told that there will be a temp Pope if John Paul dies....just like Malachy prophecised. I'm not saying I believe this....just putting out information for everyone. |
+1. I may be a little weirded out by some of the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church, but I have the utmost respect for the Pope and the stances of the Catholic Church in my lifetime. They've stuck to some very unpopular views on abortion, birth control, human rights, and other issues due to their convictions. Remember the Alamo, and God bless Texas... |

One day god came to John Paul II in a vision. JPII asked him "Lord, will you return to Earth?" "Not while you are Pope." God answered. JPII asked again "Lord, will there ever be peace on Earth?" Again, God replied "Not while you are Pope." Finally JPII said "Lord, will there ever be another Polish Holy Father?" "Not while I am God." |
| cbs radio news (it's what my local AM station uses for national stuff) has had a bishop on saying what the pope was given was one of 7 rights they have and the one in question is just given for surgeries and general health issues and is not last rights which is given to people that are about to die |
scares the hell out of me to hear stuff like this. I know its supposes to be celebrated but the end of the world? |
+1 I hear that he has a Living Will/Advanced Directive |
Yeesh. Creepy. |
Growing up Catholic I am unaware of any the 7 being only used for surgeries for General Health. Baptism Communion Reconciliation Confirmation Marriage Ordainment Last Rights. Of these only 'Last Rights' is used for those who are of ill health. |
I despise what happened in the Church as much as you, and I'm also a protestant, but has there been any proof showing that the Pope knew about what was going on and the coverups taking place by the bishops and cardinals? Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... |
Ummm I 'm good with everything except the "temp" pope..... there are no "temp" popes but they may have a temp in charge like a cardinal, pope is for life. |
If he still has the trach tube in, it wouldn’t be too hard to plug in a O2 line into it or intubate and hook him to a respirator. What is telling here is that he hasn’t been transferred to the hospital. Plus he's has Parkinson's Disease and he's in his mid-80's.... Taking ALL of that into account plus the fact that he’s been given the sacrament of Extreme Unction signals the end – IMHO. |
Read the books..... as Cardinal he was banned from returning to Poland because he was such a huge threat. The Vatican and Reagan worked hand in hand, hence the assasination attempt backed by the KGB. Read about it, there are several books which detail this info. |
Pope JPII was instrumental in the destruction of Communism throughout Eastern Europe that preceded the ultimate fall of the Soviet Union. Why do you think the KGB hired that Turkish patsy to try to assassinate him in the early '80s? The Pope was aggressively undermining Communism in Poland (his homeland) as well as most other Eastern Bloc countries - he was a hero to the Solidarity movement in Poland to promote freedom and the fall of Communism there. In the '80s John Paul II was working very closely with Reagan and Thatcher as an unbeatable trio in combatting Communism around the world including Eastern Europe and Latin America as well (where Catholicism is nearly universal). John Paul II had ENORMOUS influence over the success of American foreign policy and brought incredible pressure upon Eastern Bloc Communist Gov'ts through his vigorous defiance of Communism and open endorsement of the Solidarity movement. With Thatcher keeping Western Europe in line (or basically shutting down their strident anti-Reagan opposition) and with Pope John Paul II stirring the masses to support political uprisings all throughout the Eastern Bloc and with Reagan being the Master at playing hardball diplomacy and staring down Gorbachev at Reykjavik - these three individuals were each indispensible in the at-that-time-unthinkable dissolution of the USSR and the fall of Communism. |
