Hello,

Received a  Radioshack pro 162 the other day as a gift. It is one that comes pre programmed.....

Long story short, Can personal info can be broadcast during a traffic stop?

If guns are found, they are traced as stolen or not and back to a name, correct?

The whole thing about keeping serial #'s private kinda goes out the window, correct?

If they call in S/N's over the air, yes somebody could be recording the numbers and making a list.

It's really not that much of a big deal. Nobody really cares what guns you own. If the ATF wanted to really find out, all they need to do is pull the 4473's and there is a pretty good list.

Heck, lot's of people give a list of S/N's to the insurance company to add to a rider on their policy.

Av.

Edit: there is no law to keep s/n's private - your post reads like you belive that the police can not give out the s/n's.

I'm really not concerned about S/N's so much..... now if my name, birth date,  SS#, address, and such was broadcast along with the gun info....I could see a problem with that

I would be more concerned about cordless phone safety. Many of the older models can be heard on your common scanner...I can't recall the freq range
