Daily showers could become a thing of the past, if a new beauty trend called 'cleansing reduction' takes off. Instead of bathing every day, proponents whittle their washing habits down to once or twice a week on the grounds that too much cleansing can strip the skin and hair of essential natural oils. While it might sound disgusting, it would seem that cleansing reduction is catching on, after a poll for tissue manufacturer, SCA, found that 41 per cent of British men and 33 per cent of women no longer shower every day. Shower optional? 41 per cent of British men don't wash every day according to a poll by tissue company, SCA Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook |

British.
There you go. I was in Prague in the mid-90's. The only women who stunk over there were ex-pats (Brits, Americans, etc) who moved over there to live "Bohemian". The same with body hair. All the Czech women emulated the idealistic "American" woman, at least hygiene wise. |

If Americans weren't so fucked up about smells, we could shower once a week. If by "fucked up about smells" you mean "don't like the smell of BO" then yes, I'm all kinds of fucked up! 'merica!! P.S. - I hope I don't get stuck next to you at a movie theater or something |

A lot depends on the individual, had a friend of a friend once that would step out of the shower and smell like a NBA locker room that hadn't been cleaned in days within 20 minutes. No amount of deoderant or cologne helped either, was a relationship breaker for my friend.

This thread will be a wonderful demonstration of OCD.
I shower when I am dirty, not because of some obsessive compulsion to shower a certain number of times a day, or because I feel like I "have to" before going to bed, or after taking a dump, or before locking and unlocking my front door twenty times Last time I showered was when I got back from Cola Warrior, because there was a lot of mud. |
|
There have been times in my life where I showered once a week -- but that's because there wasn't a place to do so handy.
I shower once a day 82.582% of the time, twice a day 15.418% of the time, and 2% of the time no more than a full 24hrs without a shower. If I don't shower I'll at least change undies and socks -- that can make one feel much better. |

Barring working out (which I haven't had time to do in the last week or so), I shower every other day. Hygienically, there's no difference between showering once a day and every other day, but it does strip your body of oils that's your immune system's first line of defense.
Anything after that and my hair starts to get oily, which kind of bothers me. Back in college I just gave up on the concept of showering during exam weeks. |
| I had a Brit for a roommate in college for a quarter, don't know about the rest of the nation but I was lucky if that jerk showered once a week. After 10 weeks of his funk I paid extra for a single room just to get away from the funk. You haven't lived if you haven't gone to a pub in Britain on a rainy night, with every one wearing slightly damp tweeds or jeans and sweaters with a peaty fire burning in the corner fireplace. |

I think part of the obsessive compulsive need for constant washing is part of our puritanical culture and discomfort with our bodies, and in no way natural or healthy.
There is a limit, and certainly, in this part of the country, weather dependent. But bathing twice or more a day? You got issues son. |

Shower in morning to wake up, Work all day in hot warehouse, play hockey and get soaked in sweat that evening. Shower before getting into my nice clean sheets. Crazy I know! I spent all of my 20s in the Infantry not showering because showers aren't always available. Fuck that. |
