So, I was just thinking...

22 years before I was born the world had just learned that Germany had exterminated 6 million Jews and the US had dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan.

The year I was born The Tet offensive would begin in about 6 months and we wouldn't walk on the moon for 2 years.  Reagan is elected governor of California.  Superbowl I was played in Los Angeles.  The 25th Amendment to the US Constitution is ratified.  Stalin's daughter defects to the US.  The Six Day War in the Middle East is fought, and Israel kicks ass.  Muhammad Ali refuses to be inducted into the Army.  The Beatles release Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Thurgood Marshal becomes the first black Supreme Court Justice.  A series of race riots occur across the country.  Che Guevara is captured and killed in Bolivia.  McCain is hot down over North Vietnam.  The supersonic airliner Concord is unveiled for the first time.

22 years ago this year Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.  Bill Clinton is sworn in as the 42nd President of the US.  The Gulf War had been over for 2 years.   General Motors sues NBC, after Dateline NBC allegedly rigged 2 crashes showing that some GM pickups can easily catch fire.  A bomb goes off in the parking deck of the World Trade Center.  The Unabomber was still at large.  Vince Foster kills himself (or so they say).  We invade Somalia and the Battle ofMogadishu occurs.  The European Union formally begins.  The Brady Act is signed into law by Clinton.  The Mississippi floods out a good chunk of the midwest.  The Internet was something only universities and the military used.  In January, there were 50 web servers IN THE WHOLE WORLD.  Mosaic was launched by the NCSA at the University of Illinois at Urbana -Champaign.

The events of the mid 1940s seem so far removed; will today's children feel the same way about the mid 1990s?
