[ARCHIVED THREAD] - PerSec/AROCK Question (Page 1 of 3)

So, let's say you had a major life event, the details of which would completely expose your location and possibly identity. Would you expose details of the cause which would leave out enough of the event to protect you, or include details of the event while leaving out enough of the cause to protect you?
Either way, there's a pretty CSB on the way. ETA: Thread will be going up tomorrow either way. It really doesn't matter which half of the story I tell, I'm just interested in the opinion of a widespread group such as ArfGD. Why tomorrow? I can't give it my full attention if I'm going to sleep tonight. ETAA: I guess I should also let those new to this thread know, I'm going to sign off at 10pm PST, and I'll likely post whatever thread I'm going to post at about noon tomorrow (also PST). |

Quoted: Unfortunately, this really is an either or situation with respect to AROCK. It's either what happened, or why. Anything else would give away too much. Quoted: Quoted: Leave out anything that can identify you. Plenty of assholes out there Unfortunately, this really is an either or situation with respect to AROCK. It's either what happened, or why. Anything else would give away too much. Maybe just post in team then. Less likely for a DU troll or antigunner to hang you out to dry |

If for nothing else than to keep it off the search engines. |

I didn't even think about that. I lurked for a while before I joined. I don't know enough about the difference between the two to be sure I'd rather have details in Team than GD. |

No brother, don't fish. I know some of you, and those I know either know already or will find out the whole story next time I see you. |

Posting personal information, or information that can personally identify you in a public forum is dangerous. There are any number of people reading this forum, many of them aren't registered. Many more that are registered may not own guns, and may be data mining to try to screw any gun owner they can. If you're going to post anything like that, put it in Team. |

You can use it as you're a team member and as Zack said they don't show up in Google searches As I presume it goes with threads lacking in detail, such as mine, I guess there's only so much input I can get. Suffice it to say, I'd rather not have these details altogether displayed in Arfcom, Team or not. The situation is just like that. I can't explain without explaining, you know? Edited because everyone will ask "why did you post, then?" I really can construct a good AMA from either the event or the cause. I can't do both without AROCK. I put it to GD to choose. |

If you care about that kind of thing you wont do it, if you don't care then you will. The fact that you'd ask such a cock-tease question means that you've already made up your mind I'd imagine. I will. I have thought about how to not AROCK myself, and I have come to the conclusion that I can go with the cause or the event, but not both. |

i've dropped enough personal info here that anyone with an internet connection and half a brain could ID me in about 5 min from public sources. and i suspect most posters could be IDed in less than an hour, without web trace tools.
it's to the point now where your username isn't any kind of confidential alias that hides your identity--it's just a nickname. |

ETPut my post in the post, not the quote. |
