I'm currently an out of state resident living in Oregon while I attend Oregon State University.

I was looking to purchase a firearm while living here.

Could someone please point me in the right direction about the specific laws governing this?

The reason for my confusion is because BiMart allowed me to purchase a rifle (which included a background check to the Sheriffs) but yet another gun shop recently told me they wouldn't sell to me since I have an out of state license. The BiMart employee told me as long as I have an address here where I pay utilities I am GTG.

Thanks in advance.

Federal law allows people to purchase rifles or shotguns from a dealer in a State other than their State of residence, as long as the purchase complies with both States' laws.

An individual cannot purchase a handgun in any State other than their State of residence.
