Anyone heard of them? OSS

They apparently have generated some buzz by creating a no back pressure suppressor as well as running an offsite event in Vegas called Beyond Shot (FB linky)

Their facebook also says that HK is supposed to announce OSS as an official suppressor to the MR556 and MR762.

Google didn't pull anything up for me so I don't think its a dupe.

So, in over 100 years of suppressor design.. These are the only folks in the world to develop a "no back pressure" design?

I'd tell you not to shoot the messenger but your "back pressured" suppressor would inhibit you from any follow on shots.

I don't see how a suppressor could have no additional BP and still function, based on their basic premise- that is, to slow the release of gas over a longer period of time.

My local SOT has them.

It is certainly a new design. I am waiting for a chance to demo one. I will report as soon as I do.

I am glad this thread was started because the news has been out for a little while now but most people don't understand that this is almost garrunteed to be the system that the SEALs/Delta/SuperSecretSquirrelSquad using right now and these will supposedly be available to the public on MR rifles. I would really love to own each of those guns.

They're not really quieter than any of them. But they're an absolute pleasure to shoot. I was shooting them on a couple of 14.5 guns and it felt like shooting a .22. Sound was comparable to mainstream cans, and the annoying gas in the face just wasn't there.

I dunno about all that, but that was certainly the intent.  They problem they're going to have is the initial cost, and how complicated the system is. It's not a screw on, one piece can. It's several different parts.

The initial cost will only be very high on the civilian side and only because the MR series is very expensive. On the .mil side they probably already ordered OSS suppressor a for their 416's a long time ago. Notice that these were shown on non-A5 416/417's which are the same type used by U.S. and most other .mil.  This could actually make the A5 adjustible gas block unneeded if it works well enough. This rail is also likely the reason that other companies with 416/417 rail systems aren't producing them with the most notable being Geissele.

$1500.  But to become a dealer,  minimum order is $10k.  Another problem is that they're trying to produce next gen stuff now, so several dealers I know are scared fyi buy current gen.

This all hinges on if it works like they say it does and if SF guys use it. If Hk is pimping these then OSS isn't going to be able to make enough cans to meet demand because just about everyone in Europe who gets issued a suppressor also gets issued an Hk rifle.

I'm guessing either a ton of volume or multiple vents so slowed gasses can exit more places instead of squeezing out of a tiny hole in the front.  Couple either/both of those with low granularity in your measurement and it's achievable.

Years ago a friend and I were using matlab to fuck around with can designs and we got really low gas velocities using both of those features.  I think it was under 13 m/s. The can size was ridiculously large which made the whole thing unfeasible.

If it does what they say it does at the size pictured, the internals must be some serious labyrinthine voodoo shit.I think there may be a magnet on a treadmill in there.

But honestly, it wouldn't surprise me that much.  Suppression tech has been exploding over the last decade or so... lots and lots of new brains working on the problem.

The OSS is a multi piece configurable system but the BPR with one SRM on the Hk 308 from the literature released appears to weigh in at around 22oz if I was reading it correctly.

I'd like to see how well these hold up to the military's firing schedule.
The best way to maintain structural integrity in a high pressure device is to use an octagonal shape.

If this new suppressor system eliminates the increase in fouling of suppressed weapons, it will be worth every penny.

Another issues comes up. Now that all the gas is supposedly going through the suppressor instead of the receiver, is the suppressor user cleanable?  All of that mess has to end up somewhere.

Suppressor back pressure comes from the can pushing gas back through the barrel into the chamber once the action starts to unlock.

Piston guns will put gas in your face the same as DI.
