You use it to build applications that make money. I am part owner of a company that runs a specialty medical record system all on open source software. The beauty of it from a development point of view is that you don't have to pay licensing fees to use the core systems. There are useful products and services available that you can pay for. The main thing is that you don't have to pay big bucks to Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, etc. Quoted: selling your data.. That, and taking in other peoples' data and selling it back to them.  |
