Given the current thread about OC, and what is said, I want to get an idea of how many people OC and how many people have personally seen someone harassed for OC. |

First reply in the poll. I have been detained (terry stop + handcuffs) by LE for open carry, and shortly had my weapon returned to me with the admonition that, "I shouldn't just carry a weapon around here, it scares folks." NoVA? Ja. Someone reported me as, "A 15 year old with camo pants, a black jacket, and a gun." I was 18 at the time, and had stepped outside wearing BDU's and a thigh rig. I had six officers outside my house within five minutes. In the three years of open carrying since then, I haven't had a single issue. |

I am a big advocate of OC, and I admire those who do, but I got tired of the harassment (more from the sheeple than from LE, although I've had/seen my share of that). So now, CC only for me.
However, whenever I see somebody OC, I always give them a thumbs up/attaboy, and tell them it's good to see people exercising their right to bear arms. |

Been stopped by LEO and by Walmart Granny Greeters [WGG's]. LEO took a look at my LTCH, checked it, admonished me to cover it up and went on [I did not cover up, I continued on the walk]. WGG incident was posted in GD a few months back. Medium story short, I was allowed to continue into the store because "At least he has it in a holster." |

My experiences with non-LEO while OC have generally been positive. Once at Chipotle, I spoke with a gun owner who was new to the area. Directed him to a couple local ranges and gun stores. I've had conversations with some employees at several stores and helped spread some knowledge around, helping other people become aware of their rights. I've also been asked to leave several other businesses while carrying. Which isn't too big of an issue to me. There's other places that I can spend my money. Of the places you might expect I would get hassled, none of the employees at my bank has said one word to me about it when I've dropped by to do any banking. |

I rarely open carry, although I have.
I am usually enroute to somewhere to actually shoot or hunt or go to a formal class. I might stop at a gas station or a convienence store on the way. I have only open carried one time and actually went into a business for more than a couple minutes and that was when I was attending Gunsite. Everybody in the class went out to eat one evening after class and everybody open carried: nobody cared in the least. While I was there in the Paulden AZ/Prescott AZ area, I saw quite a few people in places like the grocery store who were open carrying. I have known other local people who open carry all the time to the grocery store or whatever: they carry (openly) at all times and as far as I know, they have never had a problem. I have also seen people open carrying in various stores over the years. I don't know who they were, they may have been law enforcement, but there was nothing that led me to believe that. Again, nobody seemed to notice or care. I once went into a bar and drank a few beers and ate lunch while open carrying. I didn't do it on purpose. I forgot I was carrying. We were coming back from rock climbing. I had a 2" J-Frame in an outside the pants holster. Once again, nobody said anything about it. I have been shaken down for carrying a gun when I wasn't carrying a gun. I attended a class at Frontsight right down the road from where I live. After class, a group of us went to the Pahrump Nugget hotel/casino for dinner. I don't know how or why but two security guards walked up to our table in the restraunt and asked if we were Frontsight students. We said yes, and they asked if we were carrying. None of us were, we told them that, and nothing more was said about it. As far as I know, it is legal to open carry here. I personally don't do it to avoid the hassle. I would rather be the grey man. However, if it was a more commonly accepted practice, I would buy a really nice custom belt and holster with all the stiching and engraving and open carry all the time. Even though I live in the southwest US where guns arn't anywhere near the big deal they might be in the northeast or even kalifornia, I still think that you run a significant risk of hassle with open carry. We have a guy in my town who stands out on the main drag of town every single day, all day, and has for many many years holding an American flag in one hand, a cardboard sign in the other hand with the Bill of Rights on it, and a pistol in a holster. He stands there all day and waves at every car that passes by. He has probably been doing this for 10 years or more. |

Depends on where I'm going, the weather, who I'm with, etc...
MN is technically a "Licensed Carry" State with no stipulation on concealed or open. The City cops will come to harass you on a call from the sheeple, further out they mostly don't bother. Some OC events from local gun groups take place in public parks and I have yet to hear of them getting harassed by the police. |
