| Does America export more oil than it imports? |
|
No, but very recently we have been exporting refined gasoline. Watch. If we get an oil friendly admin in, it will transform our economy. Even more so, it will transform, over the next 50 years, the geopolitical landscape. There is more economically viable recoverable oil in North America than there ever was in Saudi Arabia. We just aren't allowed to get it yet. |

Yes there is. Somebody was criticizing Rep Michelle Bachmann over the Keystone Pipeline and saying the US was exporting more "oil" than importing Exporting more refined product. In part due to the lower cost of tar sand and shale oil because it costs much less than WTI or Brent. But the tar sand oil is low quality and takes more work to refine. The much lower feedstock costs gives them an edge and a larger profit margin in the export market. Plus the refiners in the US are taking advantage of the glut of natural gas and low prices. Takes a lot of thermal input to refine oil. It gives them a competitive edge on the world market. |
