Wanted a Speedy since I was a kid enthralled with everything space.  Some day I will pick up a 60's vintage one.
My 3570.50

My second Omega purchase, found on ebay.  Great color and perfect size imho. Got it for a great deal and runs fantastic after I got it back from routine service.
2054.50 (Bond bracelet model which is harder to find than the 2254.50)

NICE!

I'm really starting to like Omegas.

I posted a pic of my Speedy 3570.50 in another thread.
I have to admit that the space/NASA connection weighed heavily on my decision to buy a Speedy.

I can still remember a time when the only object orbiting the earth was the moon.

My wife and I picked this up for me earlier this year.  It's a 232.30.42.21.01.003.

I'm absolutely in love with it.  I sold my Lum-Tec and I consider selling my Stowa at least once per week.  I wanted a PO for years and this hasn't disappointed.  I would like to add one more to the collection, a saphire sandwich on leather 3873.50.31.  It's probably a couple of years down the road.

I feel ya.

But I figure it this way,
I buy my wife lots of jewelry - between birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries.....

A watch is the only piece of jewelry I wear, so why not?
and it is something I will pass to my son or grandson.

Well I don't buy the wife jewelry either. We both think its a waste of money. Either way, I'm not knocking your choice. Enjoy it in good health!

No worries, just my thoughts/justification on the matter.

But I am also a cheap bastard, looking for deals.

I bought my Speedmaster back in 1995 as a present to myself for a new job (still working here)

It was 3yrs old and I paid $600 cash.

I had a serious hard on for the new Seamaster Professional Ceramic...had to buy one. Here are some recent pictures from Jamaica...trip with the "lady friend."

Went scuba diving with it too, since what's a dive watch without a little diving?

Trying it out on a Hirsch Tiger now. Pretty cool strap - it's a leather strap that's good for diving. Super comfortable too.

Just do it! I have not regretted my Speedy Pro purchase once. I still remember the day I bought it. Home on vacation and took a trip into Cincy to look at a Tag and Omega at an authorized dealer. Once I held the Omega it was a done deal. They even came down on the price after some mild haggling. It was, by far, the largest amount I have ever charged at once but I love the watch. Wearing it right now at work.

Omega guys .......

Anyone here have any experience with or opinions on the Omega Caliber 3301 automatic, date, chrono movement?

I've read mixed reviews, mostly concerning the early 3301 powered watches.

All comments, pro or con would be most welcome.

Thanks

ETA:  disregard.  I'm no longer interested in the watch in question.

The Speedmaster Professional is a manual-winder, ie. you must pull the crown out and twist it forward until it stops it does not wind itself automatically through movements when worn or when stored in a watch winder, correct.

The Speedmaster Professional with the Cal. 1861 movement is a manual wind watch.  You do not pull the crown to wind the watch, just to set it.
The crown only has two positions, the crown is pulled away from the case in order to set the time.  The movement does not have a hack feature.

I own a SMP and that's the way mine functions.

Omega Seamaster dive watch.  A nice timepiece and current versions look virtually identical.  Been thinking about getting one myself.

Looks well worn, but not abused; probably hasn't been serviced.  Any idea how old the watch is?  Still running?

It had some issues for a bit, so I took it in for service, and the quoted me $500 for an overhaul. Not something I could afford at the time. Oddly enough, since they opened it to diagnose the issue, it's running fine. I'd still like to get it serviced, but I can't drop $500 at the moment.

Ja, servicing can be an expensive proposition.  Worth it in the long run though.

It appears that your watch has the laser etched globe on the case back, the best info I can find reports that Omega started to add the etched globe ~ 2008.
The same source indicates that serial number range 777XXXXX started  late 2009 - early 2010.

I have the same Ref. & cal. SMP and the serial number is in the 777XXXXX range.  I bought the watch BNIB around two years ago.
As I understand it, Omega stopped publishing serial number information a few years back in an effort to thwart counterfeiting, so recent info is based on educated guesses promulgated by people in the industry.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I just bought mine NIB from an Authorized Dealer on 2/14/2015. It does have the laser etched globe on the case back. A poster over on Omega Forums wrote:
But 778 is very late, like 2014 type late and certainly one of the last few/several/run of 3570.50. Again though without going to the Omega Archive and requesting a $150 piece of paper you will never know. But rest assured you have one of the very last 3570.50.

New crystal, polish the case, have the insides reworked, new strap etc.

I'll post pix.
