Kirkman has claimed he made rash decisions in the comics that he was not fond of and he was taking steps "correcting" them in the show, but drastic "show breaking" veers of story like Rick killing Negan right out of the gate are not going to be coming down the pipe. I mean, they have to fill a season after all... and more seasons after that. And in general American audiences like to have a continual villain to hate on and not some new monster of the week crap. Monsters of the week move the proverbial football and more or less create "filler", but a good continuing antagonist moves the characters and story.
And as for who is "in front of Negan" in that image, I don't think anyone is in front of Negan. That looks like a very deliberately blocked out publicity shot set up so you can see all the actors. |
