I need some help..

My beloved Revos broke the other day. I went out to buy another pair to learn that Revo was bought out by Oakley, no more Revo
I shop around at Sunglass hut and found that I really didnt like Maui Jims style, although high quality, girlish or stuck in the 70s. Off to ray-ban, had some that I liked and put on the short list. Now, Oakley, Had a couple pair that looked good.... Something like half X, I liked best.

Now here the choices:

Rayban: $180, glass lenses
Oakley: Half-X, $325, plastic lenses

I like the Oakley the best but are they worth $325+? what do you guys think of Oakley vs Rayban or others?

Thanks
Bri

Oakley > All

I don't like the ones you posted, though. Get some Crosshairs or Wardens.

Find someone you know that works for the .gov or .mil, they can get Oakleys (but the military line, so matte black instead of glossy colors, and gunmetal details instead of silver) at a significant discount.

Just had all the rubber replaced on my Oakleys. They should be good for another 5 years or so.

I have the Oakley Half Jackets, with both clear and tinted lenses. I've used them for everything from casual wear to carbine courses to eye-pro for patient care, and I absolutely love them.

That said, they cost me 50 bucks through .gov sales. No way I'd pay 400 bucks.

LOVE my Flak Jackets. Well worth the $

I went with Oakley Flak Jackets as well. They're damn fine glasses and worth the money. Interchangeable lens options for just about any lighting / task (clear, ultra-blacked-out, polarized, orange, yellow, etc, etc, etc), good coatings for scratch resistance and anti-glare, and they do a better job at ballistic protection for your eyes than most cheap range goggles ever could.

Hype.

Natives fit me better, offer less lens distortion at the edges (to my eyes), and (last I checked) offered a better selection of the brown lenses I like.

I've heard they make Asian versions of many of their popular frames, for people with flat & narrow faces.

I love the look of Fives 2.0, but they are only on the .mil site, so I can't try them on before I buy. I have a narrow face and think they would be great and they come polarized, but I can't give them a shot first.

A world without my M-frames is a world I don't want to live in.

Yes, I would not buy off of Ebay due to counterfeits, sad.

Oakley is the shit.

However, I get the .mil/LEO discount or I'd never spend the money on them. As it is, I have a pair of Half Jacket XLJs and Mrs. Evil has a pair of Minute 2.0s.

Get the polarized lenses! I've had both and polarized is where it is fucking at.

I have had MANY oakleys. Great CS when they have issues.

When I lived in So Cal I would drive to the factory and replace a $200 pair of glasses for $40. I think you can replace them for about $60-$80 through the mail. In person was perfect.

Now I buy crappy gas station glasses for $8.00.

I feel no pain when the get scratched or broke.

If I leave them at home, no big deal. Another pair of $8 glasses...

I have a pair of authentic X-metal Juliets I picked up off eBay (legitimately) and I like them, alot. I really enjoy having a metal frame, where I can replace the lenses on down the line if they become scratched. The optical clarity is pretty damn fine and I won't buy sunglasses that aren't polarized.

I have a pair of Half Jackets that are at least 5 years old. they are on their second pair of lenses and rubbers and still going strong. I also have a pair of O Frames that I wear snowmobiling and a pair of M Frames for shooting.

Friends don't let friends wear cheap ass sunglasses. Treated a patient last summer who had shards from a pair of cheap sunglasses embedded in his eye.

Yes, yes they do.

I myself have had a few pairs of Oakley and have loved them all. I was going to buy some new rubber for the old Zero's that I had, but then I lost them this past weekend. Either that or they got stolen. FUCK!! that still pisses me off.

I am on my 3rd pair of Oakley Minutes. I usually get about 5 years out of them before they break at the nose. They do an excellent job with with prescription lenses, but the quality of frames has dropped significantly since my 2nd pair and most recent.

I really like my whiskers

I just replaced my scratched up lenses the other day. Now I am trying their boots (have heard good things) so for so good. they are the sabot highs.

I use the Oakly Radars. Yhey are great sunglasses and You can change out the lenses for different colors they make. They are great for shooting.

I just got a pair of Oakleys Flak Jacket glasses a couple weeks ago

AWESOME glasses!

Look at it this way. Even if they only last you 10 years, thats only what, 35 bucks a year?

Since the frames a damn strong, and you can replace the lenses (most likely part to break) and the nose pieces, the glasses SHOULD last you for a very loooong time!

These are my every day pair- polarized and hydrophobic custom Flak Jackets. About $250 in this config. :

I also have:

Oil Rig
Splice
Bottlecap
Antix
ballistic M-frame
Juliet
Romeo
Half Jacket
Thump
O Rokr Pro

Love 'em all, wear 'em all. Sad that I've got an f-ing nice SBR with a can's worth of money into glasses, but what's done is done.

For what it's worth...

I've worn Oakley glasses every day for the past two years. I liked them so much that when my script changed, I had them make new lenses for my old glasses. They have held up very well with all the abuse I throw at them.

Oakleys?

ARE TEH SUCK.(overpriced garbage)

I've got prescription lenses in rayban frames and they rock.

my wife has Scott, and they are on par with oakley but much less, or are priced where Oakley should be.

Revo's are still available. I think both Oakley and Revo, (as well as many other sunglass co's,) are owned by Luxottica.

I've been wearing a pair of Oakleys of some sort for over 14 years.

They are worth it, and they will fix them for likel $20 if you break em. $40 will fix them with new lenses (at least last time I used the service)

I really like the Half-Jackets. They were just a touch over $100.

Costa Del Mar > Oakley
Get the 580 lenses, glass polarized with not 1 but 2 patents on the polarization.
Maui Jim > Oakley

I have a pair of half jackets, three M frames with 10 lenses and they are by far the best sunglasses I have ever had. Been using them since baseball in college and now for every kind of shooting and they have never let me down.
