I got a pair of the Oakley boots about three months ago and love them. Problem is I have already broken one set of shoe strings. Good thing they came with an extra set. Is anyone else having problems with shoe strings breaking on the Oakleys?

Use black parachute cord and you won't ever have to worry about it again.

Nope never had a problem with Oakley boots, and I never will. I don't own any.

I tend to buy things from manufacturers who are good at making them. I don't understand why it happens so often that when a company creates a perfect niche for themselves in the marketplace, such as Oakley with sunglasses that they then feel it necessary to branch out and start slapping their logo on everything they can and try to convince their customers that the new products will be as top tier as their bread and butter product.

I'd buy Oakley sunglasses if I ever find a pair that fit me well and aren't mirrored. I actually prefer Serengeti and Ray Ban. I won't be buying Oakley boots,

I actually suspect the folks at Danner know a thing or two about marketing & good business sense and therefore won't be entertaining such nonsensical ideas as the gullibility of their customers to buy Danner-branded sunglasses. I can't say that about the folks at Oakley.

So in essence what you are saying is that you don’t know shit about the subject mater but just felt like flapping your jaws for no real purpose?

In response to your commentary: I have worn Danners and several other brands of boots in my 12 years as a LEO. The Oakley’s are the most comfortable and quiet I have ever worn. They are like going to work in socks. I spend a lot of time on foot patrol here in the Central Valley of California. These boots have been cool and comfortable for an entire 12 hour shift in 100+ degree weather. I love these boots.

I have thought about the para cord fix but wanted to know if this is a common problem with these boots (breaking strings), or is this an operator error.

I've had mine for about 3 months and no broken strings yet.

For the last 12 years I have worn boots a lot, with both the military and my PD.  The Oakley boots are by far the most comfortable footwear of any kind I have ever owned.  I care about my feet and don't buy low quality shoes.  Seriously, these things are more comfortable than any pair of athletic shoes I have ever worn!

Oakley's stuff can seem kind of overpriced at times, but it works.  If you are a .gov employee you can get it pretty cheap:

I'm happy for you that the Oakleys are working out for you aside from the string problem. Yes you're right I don't have experience but I wouldn't go so far as to call it flapping jaws. I too have been doing this job a while - got started in late '94. Had a long 12 hour shift last night and got tired of hearing the same old thing from everyone all night long so if my last post pissed you off well I'm sorry.

I could have said I've been wearing 1 pair of Danner Acadia boots since 1995 and have had them resoled once, and they're probably a little overdue for another one since the good majority of the soles have the tread worn down. I've replaced the laces once and it was only a couple years ago when I did that.

So am I tooting their horn? Sure. Sue me for talking them up. If your experience with Oakley is good for you then go with that. I did not in any way tell you what to do in my last post.

But I would suggest now that if your spare pair of laces happens to break, that if Oakley won't send you a free third set, you should look into buying a set of Danner laces.

Stay safe.

I have a pair of Oakley's and have not encountered that problem.  Then again I only wear the boots 6 months out of the year.  In the winter I switch to a thicker set of boots that come up higher for the snow.

So far I have been happy with the customer service. This shoe string thing will be the tell-tell for me.

My Danners make too much noise when walking around the houseing complexes and buildings I have to deal with now. When I worked for the SO and spend most of my time stomping around in the dirt and mud they were great. Different AO different gear.

I got a pair of Oakley boots last year.  They are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn and were great for walking in sand.  They sucked for mud and got wet pretty easily. Unfortunately they started to fall apart quickly.  They lasted about 6 or 7 months with daily use. I went back to my Danners that I got in Jan 2002.  My Danners need to be resoled , but otherwise they are still holding up.

I have both Oakleys and Danners.  Both are super comfy, but the Oakleys will definately not last as long.  I have 2 pair of Acadias since 2000.  One pair is due for a resole, but fantastic boots.
I never broke the strings on the Oakleys, but they are only 6 months old.
