Yet another Oktoberfest has come and gone. This year, however, I was unable to attend like I have the previous five years because I have PCS'ed back to the U.S. from my overseas assignment in Germany. It's really kind of sad. Sure Oktoberfest is overrated and crowds are way too big, and yet the beer is expensive and it's almost impossible to get in a tent, but it is fun to put on the lederhosen and make the wife wear her dirndl and go out down to Munich (my favorite city in the world) for the sole purpose of drinking large amounts of beer and riding rides that will surely cause you to regurgitate it.
With that being said I wanted to share one of my favorite Oktoberfest videos. I shot it in 2008 on the opening day while returning back to the festplatz (fair grounds) after leaving to eat lunch at the Hofbrau haus. The band you see was one of the ones that marched in during the opening morning parade. They spent half a day in a tent playing brass polka music before being relieved. As you will see, one young band member had a better time than the others. Drunken Band Member at Oktoberfest, Munich |

Well there's always next year. Sad thing is that I was supposed to go back to Germany for another overseas tour but good ole' Uncle Sam changed his mind at the last minute and decided to keep me here. Not that I'm complaining too bad, five consecutive years overseas was enough for a while. The German gun laws just didn't suit me. |
