I am looking for an OBDII code reader, but looking on EBAY and in the stores there's a crapload to choose from as well as the major tool dist.
Now my question is I don't want to get a cheap one and it's not something I will be using every single day so those $3-400 units are out of the question.
Which ones do you use? I drive an 03 Dodge Dakota which I have a SUPERCHIPS tuner for so that is my code reader, but need something for all the other makes and years.

Thanks

If it works on your durango , it will work on anything......

Other then than. Save your money for hokers and blow and just take it to autozone when you need a code read :-)

I suggest having your truck read at Pep Boys, Autozone or any of the other places that will read codes. I say this because they use the lower end models (most of the time) for scanning, which will probably be the ones you are looking at. Secondly, I say this because of your tuner. I have a blower on my Mustang and it was tuned with an SCT tuner. I've thrown a code and it was not able to be read by one model that the local Advanced Auto used, but it was able to be read by the same brand reader, but one level higher. Even if you don't have a CEL on the communicator will tell you if it cannot communicate with the vehicle.
I bought one that retailed for about $120, but it was onsale and I had credits on my Rewards card so out the door it cost me $60 which was awesome since I walked in thinking I was going to have to pay about $140. I'll look up which brand and model it is when I get home. Its worked on everyone's car that I have had to plug it into so it might be what you need.

I bought an Innova 3140 and have been using it quite a bit to figure out what is wrong with the wife's car. Lots of features, and you should be able to find one online for around $230. Mine is OBD 1 and OBD 2 compatible, comes with a generic OBD2 cable, along with cables for several other vehicles and an adapter for OBD1, plus an RS232 cable for hooking it up to your desktop/laptop.

You should be able to turn the key on, off, on, off, on(don't start the vehicle) and the codes will flash up in the odometer space on late model dodges. I don't know about other makes.

The AutoXray units are pretty decent.

Yes!  ScanGauge for $160.  I have three, one in each.  They provide some awesome realtime data on operating parameters, as well as tell you the parameters that were present should you get a check engine light.  Very useful in calcuating your true fuel economy as well.
