There are plenty of nihilists around, there are some people who do not even know that they are one.
To answer your other question, nihilism comes from the latin "nihil" meaning "nothing", and these are the people who generally that life has no real value. There are many kinds of nihilists, though, moral, metaphysical, epistemological, political...I'm sure I'm forgetting some. I know a couple of people who actually label themselves nihilists, and a few who don't, but are. ETA: To expand on what I said earlier, a nihilist believes there is no point to anything, or whatever they are a nihilist about. For example, A moral nihilist would claim that morality has no point, or does no actually a exist. A metaphysical nihilist would claim that nothing actually exists, and it's all some sort of illusion, etc. |

I would answer your question, but I don't see any point too.... No seriously, I used to be very nihilistic. I figured life was meaningless and its just best to do what you want, since I'd probably be dead soon anyway. I've grown up some since then, and realized one has to plan for the future, and not just base your life on the assumption you will be dead soon. But I still doubt life has any real meaning (besides what you assign to it). One day we will all be dead, and all the great works of art will have rotted to dust, and the great buildings will have fallen to earth... |
