I built this pot for boiling shrimp, crabs, and crawfish in modest quantities.

eta, the bottom is 1" thick and the top rim is 1/2"

I welded the bottom on with DCEN and the top with AC.

I actually built three of these.  A machinist that made the bottoms and top/handles got one and another machinist got one just because.

The lids will be made in the next few weeks.

Nice!!!

Is there a functional reason for the 1" bottom than 1/2" wouldn't solve?

Can't help that the manufacturing cost part of me says "using the circular cutout from the top handle to fill the bottom would reduce the cost significantly.

I realize this is a "one-off" type of situation so cost doesn't really matter; I'm just curious.

That would be suitable for cooking kidneys in because you have to boil the piss out of them.
