No good video, just them walking around and talking. It happened in a mall, there is security footage showing it happening but we dont get to see it, but they say "see he was standing up out of a golf cart when it happened".

Just like to point out the owners manual for the P320/M17 says to carry with an empty chamber in bold letters on page 5...

Yeah I'm sure there's no design flaw here sig knows about and isn't saying.

That would be in Philly.

I guess I'll jump in before the "sure he did/I'll wait for the security footage of him screwing with the gun/GBRS said nothing was wrong with the design/so did Bruce Gray/mine's been sitting in a drawer for two years and nothing's happened/I have one with a safety".

In all seriousness, word is out about the 320, so anybody screwing with their's is going to claim UD. I'm not going to make a call either way on this.

Maybe they should start making cops carry in condition 3. Loaded mag, empty chamber. Israel carry style. That or go back to DA/SA autos. Or maybe revolvers and keep a bullet in their pocket like Barney Fife, haha

So, a double failure must happen? With no trigger pull, the striker releases and the pin block fails?

In my view the term "uncommanded discharge" is misleading. Something commanded these discharges, it was just something that the weapon's operator didn't expect/intend, like lipstick or a part of a poorly designed/incorrect holster. The fantasy that any of these P320s have discharged without anything pushing the trigger to the rear is real retarded.

Mmm...I don't think so. We'll put you in the camp of "unless it's on 4k video with a gun and holster inspection afterwards, I won't believe it". That's fine, you do you.

Having a striker block that is inconsistent is asking for trouble.
Having a sear with minimal engagement on a fully tensioned striker is asking for trouble.
Farming out tolerance critical components to a country not exactly known for their QC is asking for trouble.

Add these things up, stick them in a holster on a belt that's subjected to impact events and torquing is asking for trouble.

The sear is in the frame, the striker is in the slide. Unless you have the custom of custom, hand fitted guns, there's going to be play between the two. Having very minimal sear engagement, a striker block that may or may not work and subjecting the gun to torquing? THAT'S what's retarded.

If nothing is wrong with the 320, where all the videos of Glocks and M&Ps going off?

Even if you're completely, 100% right and something is pulling the trigger, why aren't these issues happening with other brands (hint hint)? That itself is a poor design, and something SIG has refused to acknowledge, let alone address.

I would venture to say a triple failure.
Sear slips off the striker,
sear safety notch fails to catch
striker block safety fails.

Not really there is a video of guy "playing" with two of them. One when he pushes the sear down it drops the striker but the block worked, the other when he pushed the sear down it lifted the block and it would have gone bang. He narrowed it down to the trigger bar, as it would cause the problem when in either FCU. And he could see no difference when compared, they both looked the exact the same. @driftpunch

I have a P320 custom works, it sits in my safe. Maybe one day SIG will admit their failure, fix this bullshit and make good on their customers. Until then, it will remain in the safe.

I fast-forwarded back/forth through the video and it doesn't appear to show the discharge itself.  My guess is that the officer didn't activate his body cam until AFTER the incident happened.

Aren't sears independent of blocks by design? Would trigger bar movement imply a pull?

Again,  not a Sig guy. I'm not a Glock guy either but I have a couple and am trying to visualize it on a Glock.

I carried an xcompact for several years and never had an issue, however, my example of 1 is kinda irrelevant at this point. I can’t wrap my brain around how this is occurring, but where there is smoke there is fire, and there is a shit load of smoke. Plus, the 320 is being banned at classes by a host of reputable trainers, including those that I take.

I sold my P320 because I wanted to jump on the 2011 train, had nothing to do with the uncommanded discharge controversy. Today, I may have sold it anyway because it’s just not worth the hassle. I’m willing to admit that there is probably an issue with a great many of them.

That is an overly broad statement.

Apple has successfully manufactured sophisticated products in China and India.   Their secret is spelling out their Quality Plan in detail and making sure it is followed.

Manufacturing in “low cost centers” does NOT automatically mean shitty quality, per de.

Interesting, so in certain conditions a failed sear can mimic a trigger pull.
I'm surprised that this guy didn't try in gun tests with a poly hammer or something similar.

Loose tolerance stacking requirement for the modular trigger pack. I called out how this would be problematic years ago. I didn’t think it would be a safety issue though, just thought it was why there are no truly good 320 triggers.

Not so much a failed sear, as much as one being pushed down by something like debris, or slowly walking down. Remember a neg angle on the sear and striker is basically a ramp trying to push the sear down, vs a pos angle that is pushing it up ( unless I have them backwards ). If its neg as the slide wiggles around it could be slowly be working the sear down the "ramp". A neg or very minorly positive angle gives a better trigger. A large positive angle is like a mil spec AR trigger where you can actually see the trigger movement pushing the hammer back more before it releases.

Sig and glocks are very different designs.

The Sig is closer to the design of an open bolt machine gun in that the striker is held in the fully cocked position by the sear, as the trigger is pulled, it simultaneously moves the striker blocker up out of the way and pulls the sear less than 2mm down dropping the striker on the primer.

The Glock has a longer trigger pull to push the striker rearward into a ‘cocked’ position before dropping it forward.

I’m concerned that manufacturing tolerances required to have all slides fit all FCUs are loose enough to allow a gun with some wear to move the slide enough to disengage the sear from striker.
At this point the striker block should prohibit the discharge of the gun.
Perhaps the striker block spring has too much clearance and has slid past the striker block allowing it to simultaneously fail and the accidental discharge to occur.

That’s a lot of maybe and not as believable as holster pushing an already light trigger that may be even lighter due to the above mentioned tolerances.

I have multiple 320s and will take them to the range, but won’t carry them.

Sure, but if an iPhone fails or has issues, you can take it to get fixed. If a gun fails, you can die or hurt others. In life there are some things you don't cheap out on. Toilet paper, steaks and guns being some of them.

It was a reference to an early "my 320 just went off by itself hurr durr" story in which it was later revealed that the dipshit lady cop in question had casually placed her loaded and unholstered 320 in her purse along with god knows what else, then when the purse got jostled, wonder of wonders, the pistol discharged. Sig's mistake with the 320 was assuming they were going to be used by responsible people who know how guns work. ??

I don't care if someone else wants to buy/carry/own/use an Sig 320 or not.  Just keep it away from me.  There are plenty of pistols both new and old that don't have this mysterious reputation.  Whether the reputation is true or not, I don't know, but I'll choose one of the ones that doesn't have a mysterious reputation (true or not) for uncommanded discharges.
