I used to use Netscape untill I bought my current computer with Windows XP that included Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.  I have been useing both for over a year untill Earlier this week when Outlook  quit working.

When I try to start it I get "Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for this inconvenience".  And then asks if I want to send a error report.  After sending a couple hundred reports I have giving up.

I then downloaded Netscape 7 and installed it.  Now Netscape won't see my internet connection.  I am using a very fast cable connection.  The only thing I haven't done is set my mail client yet.  I have to get the info from the cable company on monday.  I think I should be able to get on the net with out the mail set up?

Any help with Outlook or Netscape is much appreceiated.

Believe it or not, this is almost a duplicated post.

Someone else was complaining here about the same IE problem you describe, and I posted in there as I brought a new computer around Xmas, and have IE doing the same thing.  I thought a reboot would fix it, but no luck.  Switched to Netscape 7.0, and it seems to work, but sometimes it freezes at "Resolving host" then says it can't find the site. I'm on dialup, and have to end the connection and restart.

Might be a new virus not detected yet, or a real old one making the rounds again.

Either that, or put your tinfoil hat on, and we're all being monitored.

P.S.- you should be able to use Outlook without IE, I still am.  Look for an Outlook Icon in your starutp menu.

Dave "Internet Explorer 6 SP1" is not listed.

So I went to install again and it says that I have a newer version already installed and can not proceed.

I am going nuts.  I can not read my mail or cruise the newsgroups.

Does anyine have any ideas on the Netscape problem?

the error: "Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience" is a windows problem not an IE problem. It's just causing problems with IE and netscape.

What you need to do is run system restore and restore back to a date when the system was working or boot from the XP cd and run a repair installation.

Once you get any browser up and running you can open another and run it using the initial connection.  If none work, then I would guess a modem problem.  If one or more browsers work and others don't it's a browser problem.

This sounds exactly like my wife's computer.  Here is what I did to fix it.  First open my computer.  Where it tells you on the top address bar that you are in c:\ or what ever type in any web address.  www.yahoo.com or what ever.  If you can start surfing the net in windows explorer or my computer then all you have to do is go to system restore and roll it back a week or so.  It should work.

I am still at my wits end.  There are no restore points available.  Internet Explorer works just fine.  Its just when I try to start Outlook Express that I have a problem.

Go to the "settings" menu, the go to "add/remove" programs, then go to "add windows" menu, then go to the "windows components" menu and select "outlook express" to be uninstalled.
Uninstall it, then reboot your computer.
When it boots back up, go through the same menu and re-install it.

That should work.

KA3B as the answer most likely to work.  It sounds like a registry issue.

On my MAC, I had 3 browsers, and any one would recognize whatever feed I wanted.  The default browser is simply selectable.  Whe I installed Netscape (what I now use mostly) it instantly recognized high speed as well as modem connections.  I was glad to remove the Microshit IE.

We had some trouble trying to use Netscape and then Mozilla 1.6 in XP too.  So we downloaded Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird.  They work great and the brower (Firefox) has a built in popup stopper.
