I have the KODAK DC4800EZ which is 3.1 megapixels with a 64mb card. The resolution is incredible. It also takes black & white and sepia mode pictures. It has a ton of features just like a good 35mm camera. Sams Club has the best deal in town for $480 plus tax. Kodak has a $100 rebate on these cameras until 6/2/01. I will let you in on a secret. If you get the DC4800EZ(64mb card, extra battery) not the DC4800, peel the sticker off the side and you can still receive the $100 rebate. The rebate is only for the DC4800 model. All they did on the DC4800EZ box was put a sticker over the UPC code. Just remove the sticker, and you can still cut out the UPC code to receive your rebate.

I have a Fuji MX1200, and I am VERY happy with it. 1.3MP resolution (1280 X 960), and some of the best color and clarity I have ever seen for a camera of about $250. My brother's $800 Nikon doesn't look any better. The 1200 is now replaced by the 1300, but same camera, just different controls. If you are looking for more resolution than 1.3MP, I would recommend the Fuji 2300.

ditto on the Kodak 4800, I got one too, very nice, it can also hold zoom lenses that can be purchased seperately. My buddy got one after playing with mine, the B+W mode is good for doing classy nudie shots with the little woman.

I want one too. I was looking at the Olympus C3000 series, but $800 seems a little much. How is the Sony?

I just bought the Sony MVC FD75.

I got my mother a Fuji, and she is very happy with it. I bought a Toshiba, and I like the Fuji better. The autofocus on the Toshiba is too slow and sometimes focuses on the wrong thing. I am thinking about getting a Kodak 4800 as a replacement.

I do damage appraisal and have used a Sony Mavica FD81 for two years with no problems. If you want to save your photo's on something other then your hard drive the floppy disk works out great. The FD75 is great but if you want some additional features look at the FD90 series of Sony there priced about $500.00 to $600.00
Now if you want something that takes 35mm quality photo's I would look at Olympus. Blackgun |

I think my recommendation would be to wait another year or two. The price decline & quality improvement curves are still pretty steep.
My dad has a Olympus D-600L (1.4 megapixel) that he paid about 600 bucks for a couple years back. It's nice but uses batteries fast, won't accept film cards over 8MB, and has a problem with shadows. If a moderate shadow falls across someone's face the picture will show their face absolutely black. It's kind of a bulky thing to carry around also. |

It really depends on what you need it for...
But, the smallest 3.x megapixel with the most features is the Olympus C3030 / C3040. $600 - $700 new Also excellent: Nikon Coolpix 990 ( Similar price, no audio with the MPEGS, but better macro ) Olympus E-10 - spendy but the best in its class Canon S100 - smallest 2.x - great take it anywhere camera. Canon S20 3.x megapixel, bigger than the S100, not as many features as the Olympus C-3030/40 try this site for reviews: [url]www.dpreview.com[/url] I have owned and used Olympus C3030 C3040, Nikon 990 and Olympus E-10. Currently use the Oly C3040 and a bunch of medium format and 4x5 film based gear. |

I have a Fuji FinePix 4900. Great camera. Retails for around $1000 but I picked up off the net for $ 750. Can do everything that a real SLR camera can do plus MPG's. I shopped around for price, quality and features and this was my choice. If you are looking to spend that much on something like a Nikon CoolPic 990 then I would suggest looking at one of these instead. If interested, I will try to find the site of the place I purchased from.
