The wife has a thing for a game called Sims 2 and all of the expansion packs she has bought over the years has taken over my computer. I can't go 30 minutes without a bollon popping up telling me there isn't much space left.

There has to be a system that can handle all of her stuff, music, youtube, everyday browsing!

So what is it? What does arfcom recommend for these applications?

or get 2 PC's for the price of 1 mac one for you and one for her

+1 on getting an external hard drive for media files and such, and lower your IE or FF disk space usage setting

My wife's laptop with the slowest Core 2 Duo processor and a GeForce 4 equivalent video card can run The Sims 2 just fine.  It's not a very demanding game by today's standards.  If you're out of hard drive space, clean stuff out, get a bigger hard drive, or get an external one for media files as suggested above.

But if you just want to have your computer to yourself, you can get a PC that can handle The Sims 2 just fine for stupid cheap.  Just make sure it has a halfway decent video card and not that Intel 950 integrated graphics junk.

Pretty basic needs you have.  Just go to Best Buy and get an HP or Compaq that's on sale for around $500-$600.

If your gonna go with a new computer figure out how much memory you have now on current computer and then get one with at least double the memory. Im assuming this computer is a few years old. So you should be able to get double the memory without breaking your balls. Allmost any new graphics card should be able to run sims i perfer nvidia cards over ATI and others.

External hard drives are allways nice to store stuff you wont use everyday and there not terribly expensive. If you have a laptop they can be a bit of an inconvience but desktop you could leave it pluged in 24/7. Dont play games or videos off the external. You will notice they run a bit slower.
