Ms. Notrega and I would like to take a flight to somewhere in the country and then rent a car to drive back home, seeing the sights as we go. We are looking at a week, maybe two. We are in North Florida so we are game for pretty much any free state.

So we need recommendations on possible destinations and something to do or see while there and alternate routes back to see the most of our great nation.

The only criteria is all travel must be in states that have reciprocity with Florida's concealed license.

Bonus points for travel plans that have meeting some awesome arfcommers included...

Yeah I know the rules.... stinking leg humpers

Fly to VA, leave your gun in your room in Alexandria, take the  train into DC, see the museums, see the cherry blossoms in a day. You can drive back or put your car on the train and disembark in Orlando.

Never try to see too much at one time.

I'd fly to Ronald Reagan and see the capital (Smithsonian), then start working your way south through Virginia.  Shenandoah Valley (Skyline Drive) is beautiful.  The deer wouldn't get off the road and I had to drive around them (that's how safe they feel).  Plenty of Civil War sites and some American Revolutionary War sites (Yorktown).  From Skyline Drive, you can swing east and see Appomattox, Sayler's Creek, Yorktown, Petersburg, and then south into North Carolina and South Carolina.  Going south from Petersburg, I'd go to Bentonville (last Civil War battle in the East) and then inland.  In South Carolina, the sites I like are Cowpens, Fort Ninety-Six, Charleston (visit Patriot Point, Fort Moultrie, the Battery (sea walk by tip of Charleston - your wife will love it).  Then through Georgia and back home.
