I have an older Dell Dimension 2400 desktop that came with a Teac DVD burner which has stopped working.  So I went on eBay, ( I KNOW, my first mistake), and won a new Atapi iHAP122 W DVD burner.  I didn't read all the notes in the auction where it stated that NO software would be included.    So once the burner arrives I install it, it gets power etc, but my desktop when I click on that drive in My Computer I get the following error message. "E:\ is not accessble.  Incorrect function".  I spent well over an hour searching the net for a site to download the software but so far have struck out.  Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do?  I am NOT that computer savvy, usually one of the techs at my wife's job will work on our stuff but I wanted to try this myself.  Thanks in advance.

Mods, if this is the wrong location for this post please move it.

The drive shouldn't need any software to read data discs.

Check the jumper setting on the back of the drive.  If it's set to master, change it to cable-select and vice versa.

I hate to ask, but how do I do that?

look at the diagram on this page
there is a set of 6 or 8 pins between your gray ribbon cable and the power plug

does the dvd drive show up under device manager? right click my computer, choose properties, hardware device manager
if not

look at your old dvd burner and see if there is a small plastic square that slides on a pair of these pins.
usually the drive will have a small diagram or label for master and slave. you have to put the jumper on
the correct two pins for it to be recognized.

Thanks, I'll check this when I get home.
