What recourse do we have. This is the scenario.

Tomorrow is college graduation. My finacee's sister is flying in from Pittsburgh to OKC. The flight stops in Dallas Ft. Worth where she should make a connection to get to OKC. She does not arrive in Dallas until 6:15.

The problem: AA has canceled their flights from DFW to OKC. She is at the airport in Pittsburgh right now talking to them, but does the hive have any suggestions?

Oh - and for those of you who would say she should have come earlier... she was going to come yesterday, but the flights out of Pittsburgh were canceled because the big zero was in NYC...

Think we could get the airline to foot the bill for that???

refund at best...

its 4 hours. I would drive it.. I doubt the airlines would foot the bill unless she bitched REALLY hard.

Edit: But bitching really hard in a Airport could get you taged and bagged by some A-Hole TSA agent saying you were a terrorist threat. I would just get a refund and move on if time was of the essence.

The airport in Dallas will open up. My family just got on one of the flights that snuck out between the storms and if all else fails, she can drive.

If it is an act of God such as weather then you don't have much options. They just have to book you on the next available flight. IF and I mean IF it is a maintenace issue or a crew member not showing up then you have some legs to stand on. I would offer them to drive if they pay for the car and gas. Good chance they will take that offer. One less person they have to find a full plane seat for and if you come to them very happy that you would be willing to do this and not all pissy that you would never fly AA again that will not help much. If you have to keep going to a different gate agent at the airport till you can get one that will help you.
Then there is always the lets goint to LA then to OKC suggestion. AA's hubs are Dal, LAX, Miami and Chicago. can be rerouted if you make the gate agent work hard enough for you.

Then the last option is ask them to put you on another airline. Its a long shot but the do it for weddings and funerals sometimes.

Hope this helps.

Heavy weather is almost out of here (DFW), not sure about what it's like on your end.

They won't do that.  Been there....They will tell you they can refund your ticket and you can go buy another ticket on another airline.

Either way, don't expect the airlines to be particularly helpful.  Personally i'd fly to DFW, take the refund, and drive it.  Or you could have someone drive there to meet her.  Then take your chnaces on the return trip by flying out of OKC.

Fixed it for ya!  From DFW to OKC is 3 hours, especially if you are heading to OU main campus in Norman. (unless you are heading north during afternoon rush hour, then with northbound traffic to Denton you are cooked)

Yea driving is probably the best option....I was thinking USAir had a direct flight from PIT to OKC...but they do not.  She would connect in Denver or Chicago and it looks like the Denver flight is sold out.

ETA..Checked American and does not look good....Nothing on Southwest either...

Southwest flies in and out of OKC, and they are a LOT more generous with last minute one-way purchases than the other airlines.  They also fly into Tulsa and Kansas City.  If you fly them to Dallas remember they go in and out of Dallas Love Field (DAL) not DFW.

Last flight on SW to OKC left at 225pm....she would have to wait until tomorrow morning.   I would tell her to get on the flight to Dallas.

Not since US Airways ditched PIT as a hub.

Flights only get cancelled for a handful of very good reasons.

Shit happens.  Deal with it and for God's sake, quit pressuring airline personnel to get the plane in the air.  They already have their own internal pressures to fight through - they want to keep the airplanes in the air much more than you do.  Get a refund, but quit bitching that you want to get on the plane and go.  Hell, I don't care how late the flight is - I thank every flight crew when I get off the plane.  Especially the crews on Great Lakes.  They have an awesome responsibility - namely the lives of people like you and me.  Why would you encourage them to take chances?  Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Hell no, just a business traveler that wants to get on an airplane that works and fly under safe conditions instead of one that doesn't but got pushed to fly anyway because people won't STFU!

Oh... from your post before you edited it you were using a LOT of jargon that made it seem like you worked in the airline industry.

Unless you have a full fair paper ticket.  Those come in very handy.

Gotta keep it simple.  I've had ground school, but never had the money to actually get behind the stick.  I'm in the transportation industry, and my partner at work also consults with Delta and is part of their Business Traveler Advisory Panel.
